How Economics Ruined My Gaming Joie De Médiocre

March 27, 2012 by Vanir

A few weeks ago, I had an odd conversation with one of the guys from my gaming group. We were discussing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and he was talking about how much he loved it, and I was discussing how much I hated it. At one point, he pauses for a moment, and asks something to the effect of “Matt, what’s the last game you actually really liked?”

I had to think about it a minute. Which was bad, because it sort of proved his point.

The World of Exercising Experiment: The Mantearing

April 2, 2011 by The Chatty DM

This is a post about being a geek parent, losing weight and making a game out of it all… it’s closer to Jane MacGonical’s gaming theory than anything RPG related.  But if you are a gamer parent and face (potential) obesity problems, this may be of interest to you. Last fall I was faced with a […]

That Almost Sucked

March 8, 2011 by Vanir

A good D&D campaign should tell a story. But are you telling the story, or are the players? Is it both? Neither? Some combination of both and neither? After the jump, I muse about stuff that works in D&D and stuff that doesn’t. And I turn evil, if only for a few minutes.

Thirty Days in Cataclysm

January 10, 2011 by Mike Shea

I hadn’t played WoW for about six months before Cataclysm came out but now that it has, about a month ago, I’ve put in a good deal of time into the new expansion and I liked what I got. Today I’m going to talk about I’ve seen over the past month, what I liked, what I didn’t, and where I plan to go. You might call this a review, but reviewing a game expansion with such a large amount of content isn’t really possible. So really it’s just my experiences so far.

Inquisition: The Cataclysm is Nigh

December 7, 2010 by The Chatty DM

As many of you know (hell probably everyone), today was the launch of Blizzard’s latest World of Warcraft expansion: Cataclysm. More than mere increasing of the level cap with new races and new zones, this expansion rests on a new world shattering storyline that changed the look and feel of the game for all players, regardless of what version they currently play.

Orgrimmar Politics As Usual

November 2, 2010 by Vanir

It’s the end of a brutal election season, and the race for key positions in the Horde have never been closer. No one could have expected Thrall to step down from his position as Warchief, but it was no surprise to anyone just how heated the battle to ensue would become. Hit the jump for expanded election coverage!

Will of The Forsaken (WTF for short)

February 23, 2010 by Vanir

There was a full decade of my life when I declared there were two things I’d never play. One was MMO’s. I decided this when a guy I knew quit his job to play Everquest full time and mooch off his girlfriend. The other was collectible card games, because I was astounded at how much money one could drop on them. This decision was made easy to live with by being in college and/or mostly poor. Over the last two years, both of these vows have been broken.

The Most Important Games of the Decade

December 31, 2009 by Dave

As we roll over to ’09 to ’10, getting nostalgic for the advances and updates for the past 10 years is inevitable. 2000 to 2009 was an important decade for gaming, and the landscape for us gamers has changed dramatically. Here, on New Year’s Eve, we look back on our opinion of some of the most important games of the decade. While they are not all necessarily great games in and of themselves, they have made their impact on the gaming industry for many years to come.

Inq. of the Week: Cataclysm?

August 24, 2009 by Bartoneus

This passed weekend was Blizzcon ’09 which came with a slew of new announcements from everyone’s favorite delayed publishing game company. (Yes, I’m still bitter about Starcraft: Ghost – No, I will not let it go until StarCraft 2 actually comes out.) Chief among the announcements was the third expansion for World of Warcraft which is called Cataclysm, and looks to offer a huge overhaul to the entire game and the world it takes place in.

YouTube Tuesday: Game Fuel Results Vary Edition

June 16, 2009 by Dave

No matter how much Mountain Dew Game Fuel you drink, this may not happen to you. Also, anybody think it’s kind of weird that the woman changes into a male orc? (Via Extralife)
