Danny’s PAX East 2011 Recap

March 23, 2011 by Bartoneus

Just over a week ago we returned from Boston and from my first PAX ever, which I’m very happy to say was incredibly fun for both myself and my wife from start to finish. Without a doubt the highlight of PAX East for me is much the same as other conventions like GenCon, and that’s meeting great people and getting to play games with people that I don’t normally have the opportunity to game with. However there are a few big differences that I noticed which really made PAX East stand out from the other conventions that I’ve been to.

Pax East 2011: House Rules and Stealing from Other Games in RPGs

March 15, 2011 by Dave

Most Game Masters do it. Hacking your favourite RPG is as old as the hobby itself. However, one can often get bogged down with rules that defeat their intent and make the game less fun. Others have so many house rules that players and master alike get confused and lose sense of what game they’re playing.

The PAX Report

September 9, 2010 by Chris Sims

With all this good stuff happening before, during, and after the show, it’s sure to become one of my yearly rituals. Here are some high points of my trip to the show.

We Are the Champions: DM Challenge at Pax East 2010

March 30, 2010 by Dave

As you may have heard by now, I won the DM’s Challenge, put together by WotC on the Saturday of Pax. For weeks, since it was announced, ChattyDM and I have been trash talking and hyping each other up about the event. For a while, I was worried that the event wouldn’t run due to lack of participants. Boy, was I wrong.

Bioshock’s Lead Designer on the Triumph of the Nerd

December 5, 2008 by Dave

PAX 08 'Ken Levine Keynote' Ken Levine’s keynote speech from the latest Penny Arcade Expo is fantastic, so I’ve embedded it here. He talks extensively about what it was like growing up as a nerd in the 70’s, and talks extensively about finding a gaming group. Not only does he share much of how I […]
