Over the weekend, I caught the newest entry in the battle between Star Wars and Star Trek, as the Federation Strikes Back with the new update, featuring a rebooted franchise and cast (with one exception). I was not alone in this, as many showings were sold out as everyone and their mother (literally) sought out the new adventures of Kirk and Spock. Thus, for all you new and old Trek fans alike, to balance the scales of last week, I present to you the following query…
Inq. of the Week: The Stars are Warring?
It happens to be May the 4th, and a Monday, so I couldn’t let this go by without doing a Star Wars based inquisition of the week. With what could possibly be one of the corniest geek habits of using dates to make inside jokes, “May the 4th be with you” is apparently something that isn’t going away anytime soon. It occured to me that we have never done a poll about the Star Wars movies, which I am correcting today.
Inq. of the Week: Arcane Powered
While thinking about spell-casting, I got to thinking about spells themselves. I flipped through both the 3rd edition spell list and cross checked a few against the 4e list (there’s some that didn’t make the jump) and compiled what I feel is a pretty good set of classic arcane spells. Especially around the lower levels there are more that saw more play just because of the nature of lower-level spells, but I think this is a pretty good list across all levels.

Inq. of the Week: Who Watched the Watchmen?
My sense when it was being advertised, and especially after seeing it, is that the movie is something of a tough sell. It’s long, it’s R rated, and it’s fairly high concept as far as movies with this kind of advertising budget go. Early box office receipts are panning that out, and I’m not confident in its word of mouth to those who aren’t fans of the original.
Inq. of the Week: Watch What you Read?
This Friday is the release date for the Watchmen movie, and for me now is a good time to be thankful that the lawsuit involving the movie rights didn’t result in this date being pushed back! With that in mind I’m sure we’ll be talking about the movie a lot over the next week or two, and one big thing that I’ve heard a lot about is how many people will see this movie without ever reading or even seeing the comic book.

Inq. of the Week: 4th Edition Books?
I began to wonder how many people have bought these books. This led me back to a thought I had when 4E first came out, with the shift of magic items to the Player’s Handbook it became much less important for players that aren’t DMs to buy the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual, and back then I wondered how many people bought all three anyway. These curiosities have now combined into this poll!
