Review: Arcane Power

April 23, 2009 by Bartoneus

The second in Wizard’s series of books that expand upon their power sources was released earlier this week for the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Arcane Power follows very much in the footsteps of Martial Power except this time providing expanded options for all of the arcane spellcasting classes currently in the game. This book will appeal most to the current player of an Arcane character (including Bards, Sorcerers, Swordmages, Warlocks, and Wizards), providing a slew of new options, powers, feats, paragon paths, and epic destinies for each and every one of those classes.

April 23, 2009 by Dave

Just had to post this up as soon as I saw it. A music video walk through many classic D&D monsters… though more from the Monstrous Manual days than the Monster Manual days. If you ever wanted to hear somebody sing about a Beholder, this is the music video for you. Press info about the […]

Notebook Campaign: How I got my Son into Tabletop RPGs

April 23, 2009 by The Chatty DM

This post is my personal musings about introducing my son to tabletop roleplaying as a progression from the Storytime games we’ve been playing since I came back from Gen Con last year.  Instead of telling you why I want to do this, I’ll refer you to Martin Ralya’s excellent RPG advocacy article he just posted […]

The One-Page Dungeon contest: Update week 1

April 22, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Last week, fellow blogger Chgowiz and I launched our most ambitious contest yet.  We’re asking people from all over the hobby to submit a system-neutral dungeon whose map, key and any additional info fit one a one page-template. While entering this contest requires a certain effort, the number of prizes we’ve got for it are […]

A Basic Goal of DMing?

April 22, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Earlier this week, on his blog, Mike Mealrs posted this conversation starter: The best thing a DM can do (thinking specifically of D&D here), is to do his best to push the party to absolute, utter defeat*, and then watch them try to wiggle their way out, with the party’s victory determined solely by their […]

Inq. of the Week: Arcane Powered

April 21, 2009 by Dave

While thinking about spell-casting, I got to thinking about spells themselves. I flipped through both the 3rd edition spell list and cross checked a few against the 4e list (there’s some that didn’t make the jump) and compiled what I feel is a pretty good set of classic arcane spells. Especially around the lower levels there are more that saw more play just because of the nature of lower-level spells, but I think this is a pretty good list across all levels.

Primal/Within Chronicles: The Font of Sorrow, Part 2

April 19, 2009 by The Chatty DM

See part 1 here. A Wet and Freezing Welcome The PCs traveled through the Dungeon without any trouble and reached the door that the Elementalists had identified as being the way to the Water Temple.  Indeed, a triple-wave design stood on the door and a rapid verification of it showed it to be arcane locked… […]

Preview – E1: Death’s Reach

April 19, 2009 by Bartoneus

Not even a year after 4th Edition’s release and Wizards of the Coast is now into the Epic Tier of gameplay with their official modules. Adventure E1: Death’s Reach is all about introducing DM’s and players to the world of Epic 4th Edition, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve played all the way from the Keep on the Shadowfell up to this adventure or if you’re a group just starting a campaign and eager to start at 21st level you can jump right into the module.
