In many games there is the concept of a “Critical Hit”, literally, a hit that is critical (in that it causes severe damage). In Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition, a Critical Hit is scored by rolling a “natural 20” on a die, which causes maximum damage and often extra damage from magic. In World of Warcraft, your equipment and statistics generate a percentage of the time when you will deal a critical hit, causing extra damage. And so on.
Being the gamers that we are, we believe that this concept often shows up in life, and not just when you accidentally hit your cousin in the crotch with a paintball. There are games, comics, and movies that are Critical Hits. They are also hits with the critics (us).
Critical Hits is devoted to bringing you information on everything we view is a critical hit. We are the Journal of Gamer Culture, covering everything of importance to role playing (and other) gamers everywhere. We update every weekday and primarily cover rpgs, but also board games, video games, comic books, movies, Science Fiction & Fantasy novels, and whatever else strikes our fancy.
The staff of Critical Hits pride themselves on running an independent, self-made operation. We don’t have a corporate sponsor telling us what to say or cover, nor did we start Critical Hits as part of a marketing effort (though we do admit that we like free stuff). We take advertising through an ad network to help us pay for convention trips and products to review, but at no point do the sponsors ever tell us what to say. When we post, it’s because we wanted to tell you about it.
