Preview – E1: Death’s Reach

April 19, 2009 by Bartoneus

Not even a year after 4th Edition’s release and Wizards of the Coast is now into the Epic Tier of gameplay with their official modules. Adventure E1: Death’s Reach is all about introducing DM’s and players to the world of Epic 4th Edition, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve played all the way from the Keep on the Shadowfell up to this adventure or if you’re a group just starting a campaign and eager to start at 21st level you can jump right into the module.

Inq. of the Week: Roleplaying with Minis?

April 13, 2009 by Bartoneus

As I mulled over some topics on boardgames, my mind was still wandering back to the D&D game I ran on Saturday, so today we have a topic that spans between D&D and boardgames!

Krod Mandoon: Comedy Central caters to the RPG crowd?

April 9, 2009 by Bartoneus

What better to occupy my 10-11pm hour on the Thursday before a Friday off from work then the potentially horrible but still quite intriguing Comedy Central premiere of a fantasy-comedy series? Not much! The full title for the show is Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, and it will be showing for at least a few half-hour episodes on Thursday nights at 10pm.

Inq. of the Week: Summer Movies ’09

April 7, 2009 by Bartoneus

Last week The Main Event posted an Inquisition on a topic that I love to discuss, power creep in 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons.  With people voting on which parts of the PHB2 they thought most displayed power creep, 42% of you actually don’t think there’s much power creep in the book at all!  In […]

Preview: Ranged Warlord

March 27, 2009 by Bartoneus

When preview material for the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons first started to come out, what excited me the most was probably the addition of the Warlord class. The Races & Monsters preview book described the class alongside pictures of armored warriors covered in weapons (both melee and ranged). When 4e was finally released the Warlord class was extremely interesting but it completely lacked that “Weapons Master” feel…

Inq. of the Week: Power Sources?

March 16, 2009 by Bartoneus

Hopefully Dave’s curiosity was answered when he wanted to know how many of you went to see Watchmen.  65% of you went to see it opening weekend, while 23% didn’t see it that weekend but plan on seeing it, leaving only 13% who don’t plan on seeing it at all.  I saw the movie at […]

How Not to Review ‘Watchmen’

March 5, 2009 by Bartoneus

I just wanted to highlight something I read today in the lunch room at work, our local newspaper the Washington Post had a review of the movie Watchmen on the front page of the Style section today with the title “Blight Watchmen: Graphic Novel’s Edge is Dulled in Adaptation”.  Written by Philip Kennicot, it’s an […]

Inq. of the Week: Watch What you Read?

March 2, 2009 by Bartoneus

This Friday is the release date for the Watchmen movie, and for me now is a good time to be thankful that the lawsuit involving the movie rights didn’t result in this date being pushed back! With that in mind I’m sure we’ll be talking about the movie a lot over the next week or two, and one big thing that I’ve heard a lot about is how many people will see this movie without ever reading or even seeing the comic book.

Comic to Movie: Lost in Adaptation

February 18, 2009 by Bartoneus

Not long ago I was quite excited to see the movie adapted from the very good comic book, Wanted.  This excitement was spurned by a few non comic readers saying that the movie was great, and so I figured if they thought the movie was awesome then surely it must be a decent movie no […]
