Let Me Tell You About My Campaign: Age of Awakening

February 10, 2010 by Bartoneus

About two months ago Dave decided to tell you about his campaign – the setting, world, how it all began, characters, planning, and some of his house rules. He set me up to share about my campaign also, as a large part of planning for both of our games was done together. In fact his game is being run in a world that I designed and handed over for him to take and expand upon as he saw fit.

Inq. of the Week: PHB3 Classes?

February 1, 2010 by Bartoneus

With D&D XP behind us now, the Battlemind class out in the open, and the Runepriest nearly confirmed it seems like a good time to look at the Player’s Handbook 3 that is coming out in March this year and figure out which class is the most hotly anticipated.

Railroading in a Good Way

January 20, 2010 by Bartoneus

The term ‘railroading’ usually sends a shiver down the spine of any tabletop RPG player because of the negative implications that come along with it. To be honest, most DMs dislike the term as well and railroading is generally referred to as a problem with an RPG.

Inq. of the Week: 4E D&D in 2010?

December 28, 2009 by Bartoneus

This week I’m taking a hard look at what has been announced for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition in the coming year (you can see them all at WotC’s catalog in wondrous chronological order) and wondering what’s in store, getting a taste of what I’m going to like and what I won’t in 2010.

Review: “The Plane Below: Secrets of the Elemental Chaos”

December 10, 2009 by Bartoneus

The Plane Below is the first of several 4th Edition D&D books that delve into a bit more detail on specific planes and the kinds of adventures that can be found within them, as the title indicates this one focuses on the Elemental Chaos and everything pertaining to it.

Dwarven Dice from Q-Workshop

December 4, 2009 by Bartoneus

Q-Workshop is a company in Poland that I first heard about at GenCon this year and I was immediately impressed by the quality of the dice they had on display.

Monster Manual 2 – In Depth #5

December 4, 2009 by Bartoneus

Now that it is nearing the end of 2009, at long last I bring you my final in depth analysis of the Monster Manual 2 and the creatures contained therein. While the book has been out for half of a year now, I still have not gotten anywhere close to using even half of the monsters that are contained within.

Inq. of the Week: Friendly Local Gaming Stores?

November 30, 2009 by Bartoneus

This week December is officially upon us, and with it comes the full force of the holiday season and all of the shopping that implies. I find it a shame that ordering RPG books online from places like Amazon is so much cheaper then it would be if I were to go to my local game store.

Review: “Kobold Quarterly #11”

November 4, 2009 by Bartoneus

There’s a reason every review I see of the Kobold Quarterly magazine compares it to the Dragon and Dungeon print magazines from years passed, even opening a PDF of the book and seeing the cover makes me immediately think of seeing those issues in my local book store. The comparison goes well beyond the cover, however, through the whole interior of the publication that screams nostalgia…

Inq. of the Week: Frequency of Play?

October 26, 2009 by Bartoneus

This week I’d like to take a look at how often all of you play tabletop RPGs. My own D&D campaign has been on a short hiatus for four weeks now and will be resuming in early November, but leading into the holiday season I’m scared the schedule is going to be disrupted for the next few adventures.
