Aside from all the D&D stuff I’ve already talked about, there were a couple other big RPG developments, as well as a few that I was interested in following personally.
Free RPG Day 2012: The Price of Free-dom
Coming soon to a game store near you is Free RPG Day—on June 16th, you can find a wealth of RPG material free for the taking. Free RPG Day has been occurring annually since 2007, and has included material from some of the largest and most prestigious RPG companies in the industry today, including Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro, Fantasy Flight Games, White Wolf, and Paizo Publishing.
Review: “Rogue Trader: Hostile Acquisitions”
The entirety of the text of Rogue Trader: Hostile Acquisitions, is based on this premise: as a Rogue Trader, you can undress and run rapturously naked around the house of the divine Emperor of Mankind, and He will be really disappointed in you, you stupid twit, but He won’t do much about it. Until at some point you might be so naked that the neighbors may call the cops. You will reach a new level of streaking debauchery, hitherto unforeseen by anyone. And then a skull-faced maniac with arm-claws will murder you in your sleep.
First Impressions Review: “Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay” 3rd Edition
For a game with a hefty price tag, WFRP is still a game that values economy. Its books are brief, covering the general rules without getting down to the nitty gritty of every character’s special powers. Players have a card or physical object representing every action they take, every adjustment to be made, and every passive ability they possess. There’s no excruciating references to a book needed, it’s all right there.
