I’m picky. Nay, I’m downright spoiled about my convention time. I’ve been going to conventions since before I was born and going to gaming rooms since I knew enough to not eat the dice (you roll them first, then eat them.) I’ve seen it all, and I’m much more militant about not spending precious time and money at a convention on a game I’m not going to enjoy. So how do I try to mitigate this and only play in the awesome? I narrow my convention game search to the following categories.
Save vs. Misogyny: An Open Letter To Gen Con’s Event Organizers
See that ball and chain? That’s how Gen Con is portraying our wives and girlfriends in their event registration system. Activating rant mode.
Inq. of the Week: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
I am going to subject you all to another question about what you’d like to see here, but focused on our immediate future. These answers will help us to determine where we should spend our time and energy at GenCon. While we already have a packed schedule (much of which I will lay out below), the effort we spend on write-ups of particular subjects will depend on what you, the audience want to see.
Origins Awards Nominees 2009: Picks and Commentary
icv2 has published the list of Origins Awards nominees. The nominees are decided by retailers at the GAMA Trade Show, and then attendees of Origins vote on the winners, and are announced at a ceremony on site (which we’ve covered two years in a row now). Here’s the relevant categories to the Critical Hits audience, along with my favorite from each category, and my guess of what will win.
Inq. of the Week: Con Get Some
I’m an old hand at the convention scene, but how about you? I’m not talking about a convention you’ve attended for work (though there may be some overlap), I’m talking about a con you’ve gone to for fun. Gaming, science fiction, comics, Star Trek, anime, whatever you like.
