We have two sets of dice to give away, courtesy of GM Dice. Our last contest had us choosing our contest winners, but as any GM can tell you, sometimes it’s just more fun to let the dice decide. To that end, we are making this contest entirely decided by the dice themselves.
Contest: Dice Stories!
I’m back! I’m taking small steps to get into the writing groove, but I feel it coming back! One of the companies that advertises on this site, Game Master Dice, has generously offered to give away 2 dice bags to the readers of Musings of the Chatty DM (other sites are also participating, see end […]
One-Sentence NPC contest winners
Way back in late June, Johnn Four and I launched a big contest to get readers from both sites to submit one sentence long NPC descriptions. Summer vacations and Gen Con interfered and the results have been long coming. Well, I’m back and tonight’s post will be to announce the winners and prizes for the […]
New Contest: The One Sentence NPC!
We’ve had a few contests, here at Musings of the Chatty DM. For instance, we recently had the very successful 10 word Adventure and very useful Characterization ones. Now it’s time for something bigger! I have teamed up with RPG e-Zine mogul Johnn Four (of roleplayingtips.comfame) to bring you the biggest independent RPG-themed contest to […]
Story Contest results
I’m slowly catching up on things. A few weeks ago, I launched a contest to get people to submit Characterization tips to help me and my group get better tools to create better integrated adventuring parties. Well I had about 40 tips from 20 people. Quite a nice turnout given that characterization is not the […]
Story Building tips, a Contest?
I read this over Robin D. Laws’ Livejournal this morning. He starts with: Given that we’re learning a new crunch-based system I was concerned that the characterization could get lost. So I asked each of the players to submit a two-pronged character arc. This consisted of two opposed possible outcomes for their characters as they […]
Ten Words to Victory, Winners and Runner Ups All Together!
Well it’s done, what started as a lunch-time idea exploded in the biggest thing we ever tackled here. With the help of fellow bloggers Dave The Game and Jeff Rients we whittled down 21 pages of entries filled with several hundreds of 10 word adventure concepts. As indicated, the entries were so numerous and so […]
10 Word Contest Update: We got Prizes!
Hey there everyone! Last Friday I sent some email feelers to three gaming companies to try to get some more prizes for the contest (as things were I had 1 Booster box of the Dungeons of Dread D&D mini game or a 15$ Gift Certificate for DriveThruRPG.com). Last night, Ed Healy of Kobold Quarterly answered […]
10 word contest update
As of 9h30 AM Thursday morning, we have 72 entrants who submitted 457 entries in the contest. I removed a few of the more nonsensical ones (mostly the ones that talked about me, the blog or old times…) I’m still thinking about how to go at it for judging. In the meantime, I’ve created a […]
Stealing a good idea: The 10 words adventure synopsis
In order to make up for my militant rant of last night, I thought I’d steal Penny Arcade’s excellent concept and give out a little brainstorming writing assignment for your RPG campaign and then share it Here’s the assignment, write an adventure concept (any genre) in exactly 10 words and post it in the comments. […]
