For me, choosing a class has always been one of the most fun and important decisions to make while playing Dungeons & Dragons. I can still remember the feeling of pure excitement I had when I first cracked open the 3rd Edition Player’s Handbook and saw that Monk was a core class. I also remember our friends all having multiple discussions about what exactly the Sorcerer class was and how it was different from the Wizard. With the next edition of D&D now in open playtest, I felt it was a good time to discuss the varying levels of class distinction in D&D.

4th Power Project: Classes, Part 3 (Other Powers)
The beginnings of some at-will powers were posted last week– not all of them by any means, but I figured it was a start. Now as I mentioned then, at-will powers should come up fairly often, and be the stand-bys. The other powers are Per Scene (formerly Per Encounter) and Per Session (formerly Per Day.) […]
GenCon 4e Preview: The Assassin
A sort of stealth promotion is going here at GenCon from WotC, where if you sign up for D&D Insider (or re-up your subscription) you receive a bound book that contains an 11th level Halfling Assassin (with the Obsidian Stalker paragon path). It also contains an adventure you can use him in, Crown of the […]
PHB2 Roundtable: Classes
When the 4e PHB launched, we held a roundtable discussion of the different classes in the book. Well, now that PHB2 is about to be released tomorrow, we wanted to take a look at those races in a similar format. To accomplish this, I contacted several of my fellow bloggers who had received early preview copies (and have had plenty of chance to pour over it) in order to see how they felt about the classes.
Mages Gone Wild
Let us take a short trip back in time, to an earlier era of D&D. It was the age of AD&D 2nd Edition, the edition that my group and I really cut our teeth on. The first character I brought to the table was an Elven Psionicist named Spock (The Complete Psionics Handbook being the […]
Four Concepts Adrift in D&D
With the impending release of the PHB2, and the general notion of what will be included, it occurred to me that even with these classes there seem to be some fairly reasonable character concepts that just don’t seem to mesh well with D&D. This article will identify those concepts, identify where I perceive the shortcoming in bringing the concept to fruition, and take a stab at how to solve this problem.
Inq. of the Week: PHB2 Classes?
Our previous Inquisition focused on a topic near and dear to many RPG players, and can even make or break a person’s whole opinion of a system depending on how it works, systems for magic. I have to say that I’m not surprised to see my personal favorite system, Free Form Magic, come in first place with 27% of the votes.
New Feature: Character Class Reference
Just a quick announcement that I’ve put up another Feature: a reference guide for 4e classes. I didn’t have much luck finding fan-made classes, so do let me know if there are any I should add. Hopefully you find this useful when choosing your next character, or if you’re just curious about what all is out there.
Are you ready to ROCK?
Thoughts on the official 4e D&D Bard, comparisons to the other 4e Bards recently released, and a look back on old 4e speculation.
