Review: “Draconomicon”

November 27, 2008 by Dave

Draconomicon is the newest sourcebook for 4e DMs, focusing on the Chromatic Dragon family. The book contains background and ecology for all the chromatic dragons (including several dragons reconcepted into the chromatic family), new rules for draconic lairs, new dragon-themed artifacts and rituals, draconic encounters, new dragon monster write-ups, famous dragons (including stats for Tiamat herself), and other dragon-related monsters.

Online Game Wrap Up: Status Ailments and Saving Throws

November 25, 2008 by The Main Event

There is a mechanic that I have decidedly mixed feelings about: saving throws and ongoing conditions. 4E alleviated much of this problem, as most crippling effects require the Wizard to hit his enemy AND have a 50% chance of ending each round. My question is, having been immobilized or stunned for more than half a 4E combat, is this toning down enough?

Review: “Martial Power”

November 20, 2008 by Dave

Martial Power is the newest player-centric sourcebook for D&D 4e. It contains more options for the four martial classes (FIghter, Ranger, Rogue, and Warlord.) Each class gets new class feature options, paragon paths, feats, and epic destinies.

Chatty’s First Freelance project

November 20, 2008 by The Chatty DM

Its official. I just signed a freelance writing contract with Goodman Games. After a few flip-flops on my part, I (helped by a few people hitting me on the head with a frying pan) decided to plunge forward come what may.  I shall be spending the next few weeks writing (with the help of a […]

DM Chronicle: Session 5, Alien Feys & Whiskered Pirates, Part 2

November 19, 2008 by The Chatty DM

See part 1 here. Scene 3: White Rage! After a night where the PCs slept warily on the bridge of the ship the PCs spotted a winged creature flying toward them.  It was a large White Dragon with a human pirate riding it. Screaming in draconic about ‘finally getting a prize worth taking’ the dragon […]

DM Chronicle: Session 5, Alien Feys & Whiskered Pirates, Part 1

November 18, 2008 by The Chatty DM

Previously in Chatty’s Game: Our Heroes battled a pirate Scholar and her Dragon Pet only to see her escape at the last second before defeat.  Alone against a city of angry Ape Men, they almost managed to turn them to their cause only to be defeated by a crazed zealot and his retinue of elite […]

Chatty’s Online D&D 4e Game: Genesis of the Project

November 16, 2008 by The Chatty DM

As many of you know, I made a lot of friends and contacts around the time of Gen Con 2008. Among those friends was Don, one of the members of the Wizards of the Coast Development team working on D&D insider. Don was one of the Seattle Wizards who read my Open Letter to WotC […]

Adventure Prep: Fitting everything in one evening

November 11, 2008 by The Chatty DM

Since I’m running a D&D 4e home brewed adventure for my gaming group this week, a lot of my creative energies will be focused there for the next few days. A guy needs his priorities straight and my D&D game is pretty much at the top of my ‘use of free time’ list. This means […]

Adventure Prep: Of Airships, Feys and Player Input

November 6, 2008 by The Chatty DM

After a poisoned pillow fight, Slave apes and a librarian warrior chainmail bikini fetish, I promised my players that I’d write the last part of our 1st D&D 4e campaign and bring it to an apex of coolness. Since our next session is next week and the adventure is actually going to be a homebrewed […]
