Gen Con 2010: Castle Ravenloft Board Game Unboxing Video

August 7, 2010 by Dave

On Wednesday, Day 0 of Gen Con, Trevor Kidd (community manager for Wizards of the Coast) gave us an opportunity to play in the Castle Ravenloft cooperative board game being released in the next few weeks. Trevor asked Bartoneus and I to help him do an unboxing video of all the components, so we’re posting the video (in two parts) below. Enjoy and let us know if you have any questions about it.

Official Guide to Stalking Vanir at Gen Con, 2010 Edition

August 3, 2010 by Vanir

It’s the most wonderful time of the year once again. No, not Christmas. The Four Days of Gaming, aka RPG Chanukah, aka Nerd Kwanzaa, but known to most muggles simply as Gen Con. I’m particularly excited to make my yearly trek to Indianapolis this year, as I’ve made lots of new friends (and am ecstatic […]

Greetings from the New Initiate

July 21, 2010 by Logan Bonner

When Chris Sims extended an offer to joining Critical-Hits a while back, I was intrigued. I liked the site, and its reputation as a good group of people who usually stay positive about games (but while remaining honest about their opinions). My existing blog, while mostly about gaming, didn’t cleave strictly to D&D discussions. Or at least I didn’t plan for it to always do so. Also, I’ve made a long tradition of following in Chris Sims’s footsteps ever since I became an editor on D&D shortly after he did, so here was another chance.

Magic 2011 Core Set Preview

July 7, 2010 by Bartoneus

The new core set for Magic: The Gathering (M11) is set to release in just over a week, and we’ve received a few preview cards just like we did with the previous set Rise of the Eldrazi. I am currently an extremely casual M:tG player and seeing the new sets that come out usually means two things for me, the first is that my friends and I will most likely try to plan a booster draft in the coming weeks and the second is that I absolutely love seeing how the game has changed since I started playing it.

Origins 2010: Final Round-Up

July 1, 2010 by Dave

Origins has once again come and gone. Due to various scheduling mishaps with the convention and technical problems, we didn’t get to do much in the way of scheduled gaming, and spend our time looking for things to do. Here’s just a sample of some of the stuff that we did do and I was excited about in the convention.

Chatty DM shares his gaming and social experiences at a local convention in Montreal. He tried Agricola for the first time and, surprisingly, liked it!

Origins 2010: “Game Design is Mind Control” Seminar

June 29, 2010 by Dave

During Origins 2010, I dropped by a packed seminar run by Luke Crane and Jared Sorensen. Luke Crane is the designer of Burning Wheel and Mouse Guard RPGs, of which we (mainly ChattyDM) have spoken of on many occasions. Jared Sorensen is the game designer behind a number of games including Action Castle and the […]

Origins 2010: “Back to the Future the Card Game” and “Pirate Fluxx” by Looney Labs

June 25, 2010 by Dave

Origins is, without a doubt, the biggest convention for Looney Labs. Between a gigantic demo space (which this year you can follow a path of multicolored daisies to), a decent-sized booth in the exhibit hall, and dozens of excited volunteers in lab coats, this is the show to be at if you’re a fan of Fluxx or their other games.
