Not Without My Beholder: A Mother’s Tale

August 31, 2010 by Vanir

I’ve spent the majority of my blogging career trying to figure out how to roleplay better. To get them emotionally invested in their characters. To make them feel and act as their character might. To dance into the danger zone where the dancer becomes the dance. I believe I have finally discovered the secret to doing so: The Lifetime Movie Network. All the positive karma the Gen Con Ball & Chain fiasco got me cries out for balance.

Friday Chat, Early Edition: The Geeky Road Trip

August 26, 2010 by The Chatty DM

In about 24 hours, I’ll be leaving for the Toronto Fan Expo with my friend PM. The Expo is Canada’s largest event for Sci-Fi, Horror, Anime and Gaming fans where they get to meet some of their favorite industry personalities and stock up on merch. I have a 5 hour car trip to plan so I thought I’d reach out and share/ask how the travelling part of the trip should be prepared!

The Lord of Troma

August 24, 2010 by Vanir

This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Lloyd Kaufman, President and co-founder of Troma entertainment and creator of the Toxic Avenger. I had a lot of nerves going into this – I’ve been a big Troma fan since I was 13 and used to spend every Friday and Saturday night watching horror movies on USA Up All Night. Read on to discover the true meaning of Troma, what the Lord of Troma thinks about Inception, and Justin Bieber’s role in all this. No, really.

In Defense of Funny

August 17, 2010 by Vanir

I hear a lot of people talk about how they don’t care for humor in their D&D campaigns. That’s my favorite part! Find out a couple ways to introduce some levity into your game without annoying the crap out of everyone else. Or just annoy the crap out of everyone else. I don’t care. It’s not MY game.

The Left Hand of God: Review and Contest

August 11, 2010 by The Main Event

A nominally young adult novel set in a dystopian world that mirrors our own past, The Left Hand of God is a book of impressive vision and puzzling inconsistencies that ultimately provides a gruesome, but highly enjoyable read. The book follows the trials and travails of a young boy named Cale raised in a brutal dogmatic monastery of a twisted parody of Christianity. His life is forever changed upon witnessing a deed horrifying even to his own warped perspective.

Just A Geek (And Forty Thousand Other Geeks)

August 10, 2010 by Vanir

Wil Wheaton and I were both at Gen Con this year. Mysteriously, his deeds were somewhat more celebrated. Read on for the epic account of my dealings with the Wheaton and his eventual defeat at my hands! (Note: I defeat him with a secret technique involving my low CHA score. Also, he may not be aware of his defeat, or that we battled. But we totally did. Epically.)

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Preview Night

July 23, 2010 by Logan Bonner

Here’s a quick post to cover the tiny bit of Comic-Con that’s happened so far. After a mistake that put me on the wrong shuttle and a nearly hour-long drive around downtown, I arrived at the house Chris Tulach and I have rented a room in. Then after a 30-minute walk back down to the convention center, I snagged my professional badge and headed toward the exhibit hall that was just opening up.

Movie Review: “Inception”

July 16, 2010 by Bartoneus

Inception is a wildly entertaining summer blockbuster wrapped in the packaging of a sleeper hit science fiction thriller/heist film. All of the comparisons of this movie to films such as The Matrix and Blade Runner are well deserved but fall short of the deeply involving experience that Inception provides the viewer. The film excels due to the stunning combination of well executed directing, inspired writing, spot on acting, and seamless production.
