Wizards’ 2011 Spring Catalog Preview

June 24, 2010 by Bartoneus

I started previewing the Wizards of the Coast 2011 spring catalog with the Player’s Option: Heroes of Shadow preview I posted last week, which introduces more content for the shadow power source including the Necromancer and Hexblade classes. Next I’ll be talking about some of the other products listed in the Roleplaying Games section of the catalog.

Origins 2010: Get the One Page Dungeon Codex

June 24, 2010 by The Chatty DM

For those attending the Origins Game Fair over the weekend, you can mosey on down to Tabletop Adventure’s booth (#422) and purchase a copy of the Codex on CD-ROM (includes the color PDF Codex in both screen and print resolution formats and all 112 One Page Codex entries) for just 5$. The CDs look awesome and makes for a great, crash proof and portable reference!

Of Sorrowful Villainous Shrikes and Losing Encumbrance

June 22, 2010 by The Chatty DM

Way back when, I used to write these short posts (yeah, Pffft!) where I would mix and match various cool things I’d seen on the web or to update people on things I had been doing. I thought it would be a good time to do one now.

3:16 Carnage Among Friends: Part 2, Lead 4 Dead

June 20, 2010 by The Chatty DM

To say that 3:16 little prep is like saying that rain is wet. With the help of a few charts to pick planet names, planetary environments, alien appearances, alien powers and various NPC names, the GM just needs to add a few creative sparks to create a 2-3 hour long adventure.

Inq. of the Week: Really Big Show

June 20, 2010 by Dave

This week sees me once again off to the Origins Game Fair, one of the big shows of the summer for us nerdily inclined. Origins still remains the smaller, slower show for me- while there are some board game releases occasionally and some interesting small press stuff, all the major releases and announcements tend to wait for one of the later shows, especially GenCon. However, there’s still fun times to be had.

D&D 4e: The New Player’s Option

June 16, 2010 by Bartoneus

I was actually very surprised while looking through the Wizards Spring 2011 catalog when I stumbled across a new book coming out in March, Player’s Option: Heroes of Shadow. There are a lot of aspects to this book that are interesting, for one it is supposedly going to be a 6″x9″ and 320 page book selling for $19.95 in trade paperback format. The description for the book mentions three specific classes that it will support – Assassins, Necromancers, and Hexblades.

Fear and Loathing in the Forgotten Realms

June 15, 2010 by Vanir

Fear effects have always been tricky to roleplay, especially with players who maintain that their PC is not afraid of anything. Read on to find out how I’ve tricked my own issues with anxiety into teaching me about how to roleplay when my character is scared out of his mind.

3:16 Carnage Among Friends: Part 1, Sarge’s Review

June 15, 2010 by The Chatty DM

3:16 is a rules-light, hyper-focused, indie-as-hell roleplaying game. All players are space marines fighting in the 16th battalion of the 3rd army. Their sole mission in life? Drop on planets with scores of other troopers and officer and kill absolutely all life in the name of protecting the Terran home world.
