Transformers 2: Expectations?

June 24, 2009 by Bartoneus

In what is a rare occurence for my wife and I, we did not go to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at a midnight showing last night. It’s not because of the Tuesday night issue, we went to see The Dark Knight at midnight on a Wednesday (though the day of work afterward was very tough), and it’s definitely not an issue of us not being excited about it. Honestly I can’t tell you why for sure, maybe it’s because we’re finally getting a bit more mature (or lazy).

Tales of the City Within: a 5X5 Sandbox experiment.

June 23, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Summer is upon us and that usually means that our bi-monthly D&D become less formal.  Attendance tends to fluctuate wildly and our play sessions are usually shorter. In past years, we’ve used the summer period to test out new games or new PCs. This year, most of my players have manifested an interest to keep […]

Happy Birthday Skill Challenge

June 22, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Last week, my good friend Dave of Critical Hits and RPGblogger’s Network fame asked me to write a little note for his girlfriend’s (‘e’ of Geeks’ Dream Girl) birthday. Being overly Chatty and prone to a certain dose of creative crazyness, I decided to all out geek and delivered the following Birthday Challenge! Wish Her […]

Inq. of the Week: Quinto vs. Quinto

June 22, 2009 by Bartoneus

A while back, over two years ago it seems, we had an epic showdown Inquisition between Ian McKellen and Ian McKellen…errr, I mean between Gandalf the White and Magneto! The mysterious White Wizard ending up kicking considerable ass in the poll, but it generated some interesting debate about who would actually win in a fight.

Friday Chat: Dealing with Storytellers

June 18, 2009 by The Chatty DM

In my discussions with several readers and friends, I noticed that many RPG group are divided into two broad categories of gamers.  One one side you have your min/maxed, Butt kicking power gamers who are on the lookout for the next fight.  On the other you have the psychodrama-loving story-starved  players who only truly become […]

4e Lite

June 18, 2009 by Dave

I think you could take 4e and remove the powers system for a “rules-lighter” experience. Here’s roughly how it would go:

Random Thoughts Table: Dungeon Crawling through New Monster

June 18, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Goodman Games wants you! With the economy taking a bad turn, many gaming companies are having a hard time getting sufficient volunteers for their various Gen Con events. As some of you may know, I will be among the DMs referees of the Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classic tournament held this year at the Indianapolis […]

Mining the 4E “Eberron Player’s Guide”

June 17, 2009 by Bartoneus

If you’re an Eberron fan and a 4th Edition player than there’s really no doubt that you’ve picked up the Player’s Guide today or are planning on picking it up in the next few days. I’m going to leave reviewing this book to other people this time, though I do recommend going over to Geek’s Dream Girl and checking out a selection of early questions that she answered about what’s in the book, instead what I’m going to present are the reasons why everyone who doesn’t already own this book is going to want to buy it!

See part 1 here.
