YouTube Tuesday: Shine on Me Edition

December 16, 2008 by Dave

When the Senior Brand Manager of D&D declares this to be good enough to be the next D&D movie, you know it’s going to be awesomely bad. Watch for a special appearance by Doctor Doom!

Ultimate D&D Universe

December 14, 2008 by Dave

In a way, the transition from the previous editions core setting to 4e’s core setting was an attempt not unlike the attempts by DC and Marvel Comics to clean up their continuity so as to allow new readers (players) an easier entry point and to recreate the continuity to fit together better. DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths was the trend-setter there, but the analogue that works better for me is Marvel’s Ultimate line.

December 11, 2008 by Dave

The character builder is now available for everyone, D&D Insider subscriber or not. It is still only levels 1-3 (a recent Digital Insider suggests that early into 2009, but not that early, it will be opened up to all 30 levels) but contains some updates from recent material, including Martial Power. Bioshock’s Lead Designer on the Triumph of the Nerd

December 5, 2008 by Dave

PAX 08 'Ken Levine Keynote' Ken Levine’s keynote speech from the latest Penny Arcade Expo is fantastic, so I’ve embedded it here. He talks extensively about what it was like growing up as a nerd in the 70’s, and talks extensively about finding a gaming group. Not only does he share much of how I […]

When in doubt, have them grow wings

December 5, 2008 by Dave

I’ve written before about the many mean things I’ve done in horror RPGs. There’s another technique that I enjoy in any games that I run that ties into that, but doesn’t have to be mean. I enjoy transforming people’s characters.

YouTube Tuesday: Akira Remake Edition

December 2, 2008 by Dave

A satirical take on a remade version of the classic movie Akira. With Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves coming out, no crazy remake concept would surprise me nowadays.
