I don’t know how much I’ll be able to blog this year at Gen Con. I promised myself that I would not skip sleep to write so my posts will be Sporadic. Here’s a few highlight of Yesterday. I met Robin Laws at the O’Hare Chicago airport. We chatted about player types and motivation some […]
Contest: Yes! Please tell me about your PC…on Twitter
Regular readers will know that I have a thing for Twitter. If you’ve never heard of it, it allows you to post micro posts of maximum 140 characters in length. It also allows you to follow specific twitter accounts, like mine here, to see what people you care about are saying. Well a few weeks […]
Chatty’s Gen Con Plans
There’s an unexpected hole in my Guest post schedule, my Gen Con prep is finally done and I miss talking to you all, so I thought I’d share my convention plans. This is going to be my second attendance in as many years. Last time I came to the Con thinking I was a nobody […]

Gen Con Hiatus Update: Guest Post Galore and Critical Hits!
I got an incredible response to my call for guest posters and we’ve already started posting! In fact, I already have 2 posts more ready to be posted and the schedule is almost full! Speaking of guest posts, have you seen the one I did for Critical Hits yet? I took Dave’s excellent 5X5 campaign […]
Using the 5×5 Method for Adventure Design
In his post, Dave explained how you can build a multi-threaded campaign, featuring 5 interrelated plot-lines by planning your campaign on a 5X5 Grid. When I read about that post, something clicked in my mind. I could feel that this seemingly simple concept had near unlimited potential as a game mastering tool. At the time I didn’t know what it would be, so I let that feeling simmer for a few weeks.
Guest Posters Wanted: Gen Con Hiatus
As I said in my last post, the work needed to finish the One-Page Dungeon Codex and the preparation leading to Gen Con are going to take most of my free time over the next 2 weeks. Like last year, I’d like to keep Musings active with new content. So that’s why I’m sending a […]
Tales of the City Within, Session 3: The Final Chapter
Disclamer: I take several narrative liberties in my game reports. While I write what actually happens, I often adapt dialog elements or change some details to make for a better narrative… also, beer tends to fog things up a little. Keeping up Appearances This session was to be the last of our gaming ‘season’. This […]
Drunken D&D Adventure Design
In a few weeks I’ll land in Indianapolis where 6 friends will be waiting to start our annual Drunken D&D game, a happy mix of D&D and collegiate drinking games. I’ll be the DM of this event and that means that I need to write an adventure for it. I’ll be spending a few nights […]
Chatty’s Pick for the Best Website Ennies
As many of you know, today marks the first day that you can vote at the Ennies. As some of you many also know, I entered Musings of the Chatty DM for the second time this year and I didn’t get nominated. In fact, last year, I entered the contest as a dare with a […]
