Just before the Player’s Handbook 2 was released back in March I wrote an inquisition asking which power source people most wanted to see in the PHB3, the source that won the poll was psionics so it seems the PHB3 is shaping up to meet a lot of expectations already but unfortunately shortly afterward we discovered that WotC has abandoned the Ki power source concept which came in second in the poll.
Review: “Divine Power”
Divine Power is the latest sourcebook for the 4th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons that includes new options for the Avenger, Cleric, Invoker, and Paladin classes. Each class gets a new build along with a ton of new powers, paragon paths, feats, and epic destinies. If you or one of your players is enjoying playing a divine class then this book is definitely a must have, but there are actually a surprising number of features that other players and DMs will want to borrow your copy to read as well!
4E: Psion – by the Numbers
Yesterday saw the introduction of Wizards of the Coast’s new ‘preview’ content roll out for the PHB3, starting with a build for the new Psion class and an article with developer commentary on the new class and the inclusion of the Psionic power source into 4th Edition. Of particular interest to me is the fact that introducing a new, and relatively different, mechanic to the game has caused many to instantly decree imbalance and broken status upon the class.
Inq. of the Week: How Caffeinated?
We’ve had a lot of Origins 2009 coverage over the last week, and on Saturday celebrating the 4th of July Dave and I realized that GenCon is only a few weeks away. This realization makes me ponder what keeps me going through such hectic times, and more often than not the answer always comes back to caffeine. I’ve been a huge soda fiend since middle school, and even though my day job has stopped buying soda but still provides coffee, I just can’t bear switching over!
Transformers 2: Expectations?
In what is a rare occurence for my wife and I, we did not go to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at a midnight showing last night. It’s not because of the Tuesday night issue, we went to see The Dark Knight at midnight on a Wednesday (though the day of work afterward was very tough), and it’s definitely not an issue of us not being excited about it. Honestly I can’t tell you why for sure, maybe it’s because we’re finally getting a bit more mature (or lazy).
Inq. of the Week: Quinto vs. Quinto
A while back, over two years ago it seems, we had an epic showdown Inquisition between Ian McKellen and Ian McKellen…errr, I mean between Gandalf the White and Magneto! The mysterious White Wizard ending up kicking considerable ass in the poll, but it generated some interesting debate about who would actually win in a fight.
Mining the 4E “Eberron Player’s Guide”
If you’re an Eberron fan and a 4th Edition player than there’s really no doubt that you’ve picked up the Player’s Guide today or are planning on picking it up in the next few days. I’m going to leave reviewing this book to other people this time, though I do recommend going over to Geek’s Dream Girl and checking out a selection of early questions that she answered about what’s in the book, instead what I’m going to present are the reasons why everyone who doesn’t already own this book is going to want to buy it!
Maverick Cake Hunter
A little over a week ago we celebrated my birthday with raucous partying and the like, it’s always good to get a large group of friends together for communal debauchery. However, what really made the day for me was my lovely wife’s efforts into creating what has to be one of the best birthday cakes […]
Inq. of the Week: Opinions of E3 2009?
For the past week I’ve been hearing faint whispers around the edges of my radar about E3 going on, but it feels like this year everything is far more muted than it has been in previous years. The only thing that I’ve really heard a lot of excitement about is the new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer, which does look extremely badass and the changes to the MMO style really intrigue me.
Monster Manual 2 – In Depth #3
Now that the Monster Manual 2 has been out for a little bit, I figure it’s good to continue my more detailed looks at the monster inside it in case any DMs out there have put off buying it and still aren’t aware of exactly what it contains.
