Pax East (and Chatty projects) Update

March 20, 2010 by The Chatty DM

I’m still alive, I’m not depressed. I’m doing great even.  Just so busy that it’s near unhealthy.

Since I last posted about my brush with ‘failure‘, I’ve been near obsessively working at prepping my remaining training seminars.   I’ve written a 35 page booklet for the MS-Project class (that went rather well) and I’ve taught a 2 days MS-Word/Excel class that also went great.  I also wrote a 100 page course manual on getting ready for a 2 days Quality Audit (one of my old careers) made of 210 Power Point slides, 20 workshop exercises, 20 more pages of supplemental material and 5 MS-word and excel templates to populate the participants’ audit toolkits.

Finally, I’m also in the middle of prepping a 1 day ‘intro to social media’ class with 58 slides and 27 pages of class notes so far. This course is aimed at getting the Montreal French business class to learn how to use and funnel social media for their enterprises (advertising, networking and hiring).  I’m about 60% through the course so far.

So you see why I’ve been so insanely busy lately.  I need to present these seminars for the first time in the next few weeks!

Since I just finished doing the audit class (3 days ahead of schedule) , I can finally start doing some serious Pax East prep!  I’ll be driving to Boston with a bunch of friends (including legendary player Yan and my somber, untrustworthy second in command PM) next Thursday.

Until then, I will finish prepping a special reboot of my classic Primal/Within Font of Sorrows adventure for Wizards of the Coast’s DM Challenge on Saturday night at 7h00 PM (yeah, near the time of JOCO’s concert, whomever that guy is). I’m pretty sure my table is likely full already, but come and assist if you want to see me play in my element.  You can also join  Dave: The Game’s table and play another epic adventure that will likely blow your mind away.

As for the rest of PAX I plan to play some D&D Dark Sun and Encounters.  I hope to play some Magic drafts with friends (it’s been 2 years!).  I also hope to meet Wil Wheaton face to face and exchange a few funny remarks while he signs the books I’ll stack in front of him.  Maybe, just maybe, I’ll get to say hi to Jerry and Mike (Tycho and Gabe). Finally, I plan to crash Chris Tulach’s and Greg Bilsland “Save my Game” seminars so I can ask some really funky “what if” questions that will drive everybody nuts :).

In parallel, I hope to meet as many east-coast bloggers, gamerati, readers and fans as possible during my stay there. In fact, on Thursday night, I’m inviting as many people possible to join us at the downtown Sheraton lobby from 6 to 7 to create a posse of geeks to venture out and get a place to go play some pocket games and down a few ‘Bheers’.  Check the thread that my buddy Asmor has set up on Enworld here.

I plan to tweet a lot during the event… so stay tuned by following me either on Twitter or Google Buzz.

I’m still going to be busy with seminar stuff until mid to late April.  Regular blogging (i.e. more than one post a week) should resume then.

    Hey Chatty –

Long time reader/lurker here and fellow PM by day/DM by night. Too bad that your table is full – how do I go about getting in on Dave’s table before that fills up? Would love to get a killer DMing lesson firsthand.

I’m a local and seriously considering meeting up for some beers as well. Real excited for that weekend.

    Hey Jim!

Thanks for delurking! I’m not entirely sure my table is full, but there’s a chance it’s overbooked.

Send an email to RPGAMarshal(at)aol(dot)com and he “pre-order” you a table.

    Looking forward to meeting you!

Rock it! That’s really, really cool. I’m currently college-bound, and so pretty much unable to go around anywhere like that, but in a few years, who knows?

    Hey Chatty,

I look forward to meeting you this week! In addition to Thur night, I think there should be get togethers Friday morning since PAX doesn’t start until 2.

@Andy: Don’t worry… college will soon end. And 20 years after that you’ll be able to afford going to cons 🙂 Seriously, I went to Gen Con for the 1st time when I was 35.

@Mike: Yes, I’m an early riser and we shall trade Cell Phone numbers too coordinate Friday morning mayhem!

I’ll be up at PAX too, hopefully see you there. Going to have to make time to beat The Game at La Strada.

Hey Chatty, I actually enjoy these personal blog posts that you write every now and then. They’re the highlights of this blog even though you think people should skip over them. Good luck with the seminars!
