As I said in my last post, the work needed to finish the One-Page Dungeon Codex and the preparation leading to Gen Con are going to take most of my free time over the next 2 weeks.
Like last year, I’d like to keep Musings active with new content. So that’s why I’m sending a call for guest posters, but more importantly, guest posts! This is a great occasion to be read by more than 1000 people and make them aware of your own blog (or Website) with a few links.
In order to get the little creativity engine of would be guest Chatty DM churning, I propose the 3 following subjects to be covered during my hermitage. (Please note that more than one guest can tackle the same subject)
I didn’t know you could do that with 4e!
Please no obviously vulgar Edition Wars/4e bashing jokes or post here. He he.
This subject covers new ways of doing things with D&D 4e. Maybe it’s new ways you’ve found to use Skill Chalenges, Minions and/or Action points that you would like to share with us. Or maybe it’s a completely new way of doing things that you’ve thought up or a monster that does things that the game hasn’t explored yet.
Advice for New Game Masters
Moving away from strictly D&D 4e, I’m looking for good advice for starting GMs, things that will help them move away from that state of perpetual self-doubt that plagues so many of us. If you have tools you’ve developed or personal anecdotes you want to share, here’s where you can do it. If you run a DM advice blog, feel free to summarize your best posts (with links). I don’t mind some self-referencing links as long as it’s done with good taste.
You have to try this game!
I’m not known for my Gamer ADD or my propensity to play numerous RPGs. Now’s the chance to give my readers a taste of what’s out there in turns of interesting Role Playing games. I’m not asking for reviews but more for a heartfelt sell of a RPGs that we would all gain from knowing more about. Of particular interest to me are Savage Worlds, Mouseguard, Warriors & Warlocks and similar games we hear more and more about.
Do note that I’m looking for games that have been published so that curious readers can go out and buy them (or get them if they’re free).
So if you are interested, just send me an email with a short description of what you would like to write about. If what you propose tickles my fancy, I’ll slot you in for a post. Feel free to send in your proposal even if you don’t have a blog yet, I’m always willing to give people with talent a chance.
Thanks in advance!

I’d be up for the “I Didn’t Know You Could Do That” topic, I’ve found loads of things to do with skill challenges, action points and so on. I’ve also found a lot of rather by-the-book ways to introduce grit into the game, for people who think 4e is too easy or heroes are too rubber-padded.

I’ve submitted a couple of ideas on topics I’d like to see in 4E.

@Wyatt: You are most welcome to post on the blog my friend. I’ll set you up with an author’s account (or update your account from last winter).
@BradG: I’m always happy to see material and ideas from you. As I responded on the email, I very much look forward to your proposals.

I wouldn’t mind tossing out a few ideas on Savage Worlds and how awesomely awesome it is!

I’d love to write up a post on how to effectively organize the first session/adventure that you GM. It might be from a bit of a wonky perspective because most of my GMing experience is for Dread… but, based on the responses I’ve gotten to all the Dread posts on my blog, it would seem that the blogoverse likes Dread posts. 🙂
Additionally, I’d be willing to tackle the topic from the perspective of a female. Whether or not I feel that that has an impact on my GMing, etc.

PS – I’d email you something more formal, but I can’t find your email anywhere. Tell me, am I blind?

Would you believe that I looked there and didn’t see it?

Wow! I’m staggered by the response so far… At that pace I can take a whole month off (I’ve been having offers by email too).
@d20Blonde: I would love to have you do a guest post, heck, I didn’t know that you even read the site! I’m always interested to read RPG articles from a specific perspective, be it GM or female. Getting both would be awesome, as Ive had very limited experience with female gamers. Most of our significant others, while all Gamer friendly, aren’t gamers themselves.
I’ll email everyone tonight.
