The One Page Dungeon Contest is Closed

May 14, 2009 by The Chatty DM

Just a short note to tell you all that the One page Dungeon is closed. We’re sorry for those who were caught in the confusion of deadlines. The contest ended on the stroke of Midnight last night.

I’ll come back with a post soon to give you a heads up of the next phases (judging, prize categories and so forth).

I wish to thank all participants who sent us approx. 70 entries to this contest. It has far exceeded our expectations!I also want to extend my thanks to Chgowiz who graciously accepted to co-host this crazy-assed contest!

Also, do note that given the number of entries we received, we’ll likely spend a few weeks reviewing and judging them. So please don’t expect results before the first half of June. We’re still a bunch of guys who do this in their free time. 🙂

Best of luck to all participants and we’ll keep you all posted.

I didn’t enter, but I’m looking forward to seeing the winner! 🙂

It was fun trying. I had to scrap every single idea I had (none would fit on a page) and what I did send was a spur of the moment thing (otherwise I think it’d have been too bogged down to fit a page.)

Gah! I guess I was one of the one’s confused by the deadline. *curses*

If I remember correctly the plan was to put the entries together and release them all when the contest was done. If that is the plan can us late-comers at least submit something for inclusion to that?

Chalk another one up to deadline confusion. Got my entry in well before midnight… PST. I hate you, California, and your stupid time zone, too.

As with Suddry, I’d be happy to have my dungeon looked at for the pdf even if it did arrive after the deadline. Of course, I’m sure you guys have plenty of work to do without making more for yourselves.

Yeah, I’m immensely sorry for all that. Next time we’ll pick a much less ambiguous time.

That being said, the idea is to create a PDF file of the winning entries and runner ups and publish it for free on a bunch of PDF stores.

If there is a demand for the rest ofn the entries we’ll see what we can do.

Right now we’re focusing on trying to judge the 70-some entries we got.

Thanks to all the people who entered?

No, Chatty. Thank YOU for putting on the contest. I actually had fun putting my entry together, and the prospect of prizes for doing something I enjoy is icing on the cake.

Kudos to you and Chigowiz (and of course all the generous sponsors).

Funny. I thought a deadline of May 14 meant I could turn it in on May 14th.

I asked some housemates. Hey, if someone said a deadline was Midnight May 14th, would that be May 13th 11:59 or May 14 11:59?

    Well, May 14th they said.

Arg. I caught the eastern time thing. Which day though, that messed me up.

There were blog posts saying May 14. So yeah, I turned it in on May 14.

Ah well. I did enjoy making one, and some folks that I normally play with instead of DM with enjoyed playing it.

    😛

@Jon: Do send your entry in, we just extended the contest by another week to make up for all the confusion.

    Best of luck!

I’m trying to collect entries, winning or not. I’d like to link them all (or host them) at the Dungeon Maps Wiki.

@Alex: How about we officially invite participants to send you the entries on a volontary basis in the contest’s closing post next week (See my new post about the contest extension)?

    Is that ok?

    Chatty,

Thanks for extending the entry. I hadn’t checked blogs in a few days and had already emailed my entry (at like 11:50 eastern May 14) and then went to check blogs and …

I do appreciate the extension that let my entry in. However, don’t kick yourself on this: you folks did the community a wonderful service to take this upon yourselves. Even if my entry hadn’t counted, I would still have enjoyed the process, stretched my DMing creativity and perspective and had a nifty piece of work at the end of it.

    Kudos
