YouTube Tuesday: Two Scimitars, No Waiting Edition

February 24, 2009 by Dave

This has been making the rounds (or is that, making the Realms?) this week: a fan film based on a book starring everyone’s favorite dual-wielding Drow renegade with a figurine of wonderous power, Drizzt. By no means perfect, just like last week’s pick, it’s amazing what can be done for no budget nowadays. Originally spotted at ENWorld.

Why o Why, hasn’t WotC/Hasbro actually licensed this into a movie yet. The books in question are well-known, many have been NY Times Best Sellers, the stories seem as if they would translate to the big screen well . . . and in no way could it be worse than the movies they have spat out.

If they put even a middling budget (for a feature film, that is) into a project like this, I think they’d stand to make a nice profit.

    Or

    am I missing something?

I don’t know… My issue with the Drizzit was that he was surrounded by more interesting characters. I ended up reading for the little glimpses into the lives of his antagonists, so I consider the best one of the series to be Servant of the Shard for his amazing portrayal of ‘evil’ in Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri.

Also, as a DM, I got fed up with CG drow turning up at the gaming table…

    Drizzit is soooo emo!

WotC’s record on licensing D&D for movies has been dismal. I hope they get their act together and put together a studio a la Marvel to develop their own projects before they do further damage to the IP.

That was pretty cool, all things considered. Thanks for the link. I’ve always been a fan of the Drow concept, but ever disappointed by the execution of it (whether by WoTC or Salvatore.)

How can one explain such unholy… ACTING… TALENT?

Seriously though, a lot of that was very impressive. Kudos to the creators.
