Chatty levels up to 36!

January 12, 2009 by The Chatty DM

dragonToday marks my 36th birthday!

I’m not one to make a fuss about my age.  I’m a kid at heart and the number attached to my physical shell has been mostly immaterial.

However, I feel I’m at a crossroad in my life.  I’ve discovered the world of writing in the last 18 months that sustains my soul and brings me a level of satisfaction I’ve rarely achieved in my professional life. On the other hand, I’ve reached a point in said professional life where I make quite a comfortable living doing things I know I’m good at.

Many hard choices are staring at me and the current economic state are making some paths look less savory than others. Thus, this year is going to be about me pondering my options carefully.

The gift I’m giving myself is self-trust, telling myself over and over again that I beleive in what I’m capable of achieving whatever it is I set out to do.

Case in point, I’ve put the final editing touches to my Goodman Games 4e adventure last night!  I wasn’t sure I could pull it off, and I’ve laid awake a few nights, worrying about it. Now that its done, I know I can do it and from now on, I’ll keep believing I can do such projects!

I’m also getting Draconomicon I: Chromatic Dragons.  A kid at heart needs a real gift too 🙂

Have a great week all, mine’s shaping up to be quite a busy one.

    Happy Birthday!

You should ponder carefully what you want to do with your life.

Only one tip: we only live once; you should do things satisfying to you

    Best regards,
    Carlos

    Happy Birthday!

I dare say you’ve got a lot of people in the same boat as you. I know quite a few people that are looking for a new direction for the new year, be it through choice or losing their job in the current economic situation. We’ll all be fine, I’m sure!

Thanks for the good wishes one and all!

@ Carlos: Agreed! The trick is to find the balance between satisfaction and keeping a roof on top well fed kids. 🙂

@Super: I know many share the same situation. I’m confident that opportunities will arise. In fact many of them do right now!

36th level? Congrats! But I hope you’re not playing by the Rules Cyclopedia – or if you are, I hope your DM has a house rule allowing humans to attain levels beyond 36th! 😉

Happy, happy birthday – may you make another 36 years as a lovable and incredible dungeon master, share many gaming sessions with your fellow players and pass it successfully on to your kids. ( I think you’re doing a great job in doing so ).
All the best for your future.

Happy Birthday Chatty! You are officially a higher level than Tiamat. Always use your powers for good! The PCs don’t need another overpowered solo encounter 😉

    Hi and Happy Birthday.

I’ve been reading your blog for some time now and its one of my favorites. As a matter of fact you were one of the inspirations for me to start my own RPG blog. You are an inspiring member of the RPG community and thanks for all the good posts. Have a great birthday.

Chiming in to wish a happy B-Day!!!

Seems like that balance’s not an easy thing to find! – I know I’m still looking for it!

For example, my brother went the whole “lets go with our passions” thing and still wonders if he shouldn’t have gone for a stable job instead.

I’m pretty convinced that if he went for a stable job, he would’ve spent his timer wondering if he shouldn’t have gone the other way 😛

    Happy birthday!

As for the career choice… based on what little I’ve read of your enjoyable blog, you’ve written and will publish your first adventure shortly. I’d suggest that you write and publish two more before deciding on that change. That should give you a better idea of whether writing is something you want to do full-time.

    Good luck!
