Here’s another comic with some new characters, once again done with the creative support of my good friend PM.
It was about time that I put my gargantuan and Colossal dragons to use, it’s not like I ever needed them in my actual games.
I owe the original idea of this comic to Scotticus, thanks man!
I’m really enjoying doing those, and I’m perfectly aware that it’s not everybody’s thing here. I do it because I get to learn a lot on so many things: digital photography, comic book writing and comedy (which ain’t easy).
I still need to make myself a pair of light diffuser and I should experiment taking pictures from different angles to show different parts of my gaming room (although, the way I currently do it allows me to snap pictures without actually cleaning up my work/play space…)
If you want to see a bit more of my play room, have a look here.
I’m actually thinking of putting the comics on it’s own series of webpage and implement some sort of archive… but I’ve only done 6 so far… so no hurry.
Thanks for humoring me and thanks for the feedback both positive and constructive.

I don’t know how many people recognize Gumby… I have a bunch of 25 year olds in my lab who’ve never seen him or his horse Pokey… that’s just sad.
Anyway, I got that figurine when I was the 1st to comment on Geeknews.net 1000th post! Thanks again Andy, you are now an indirect participant in my webcomic… speaking of which have you seen Andy’s webcomic yet?

Heh. I love the “playing with your food line” 🙂
If ya want suggestions, I recommend playing with your light.
Light is /everything/ in a photograph. No, really. Trust me on this. It’s true.
Grab an anglepoise lamp and use that as your sole light source. Play with distance and location to get specific effects. Spooky is easy – try for a “morning”, “evening” and “night-time” look, or angry dragon/happy dragon.
Then start collecting transparent candy wrappers to hang in front of the lamp for different coloured effects. Hey, we’ve all done it 🙂
ChattyDM says
Hey Greywulf, thanks for the feedback… your tip mirrors one John Arcadian sent me a few weeks ago… I’ll definitively get a pair of such lamps (we’re talking the Pixar lamp right?) and I’ll start playing with them…
John Arcadian says
Yup, Anglepoise is the Pixar lamp. The quintessential lamp on an arm since the late 30s or 40s. Lighting macroshots isn’t easy in any way, especially something with a shiny surface. So good job on getting the shots to look pretty good.
Myself, having just gotten back into DND dming, I find the last panel kind of funny. I cram every week before I run DND to refresh myself on all the particulars, then immediately forget a lot of the little details.
Trask says
Maybe it is just me, but in what order should you read the panels? It was a little confusing, but I made my “decipher humor” check. 😉
Otherwise, very cool.

Man, I wanna play with those guys! Pepperage Farms!!! All I ever get is stale popcorn and cheap stuff that gets orange finger prints all over my character sheets, and they break out with the good stuff!!
Graham|ve4grm says
Trask – it shouldn’t be too hard. The panels aren’t out of order here.
Panels:
1 2
3 4
5 6
are read in order 1,2,3,4,5,6.
The confusing part might be that panel 2 is unrelated to the rest of the comic, and is just a random reference.
Trask says
Thanks Graham!
I thought that was it, but I wanted to verify.

Yeah Panel 2 was a holdover from the 1st version of the comic where Fang had a 2 panel gag with the bag in it’s mouth. But Fang’s dark colours made it hard to see what he was actually doing…
Rex on the other hand made a great picture!
A later version (with Rex) had an off panel Blackie saying that no Dead alewives references were allowed (and a later off panel comment by Rex saying, in small letters, ‘but I really wanted some Dew’)… but it made the comic really crowded.
I’m starting to realize that some of the best lines actually happen mid comic (like the playing with your food one) and maybe I should go with 3-4 panel comics instead of 6 and make them more often…
PM says
I think we* should keep the 6 panel format… We have already started cutting out jokes because we’re running out of space. Also, we want to build up a little continuity and a small story arc… plus, I’m not sure there’s enough comic genius between us to pull off gags in three panels.
* The use of “we” and “us” made it shorter to write than “you and with my humble and occasional help” all the time.
ChattyDM says
Don’t sweat it with the ‘we’ stuff PM… I may be an overlord but I don’t mind sharing the credit with my minions! Mwa HA HA HA!
And you can bet your South Shore keister that I’ll put you on storyboarding duty soon enough… 🙂
Scotticus says
Yah! I got a “thank you”! Woo-Hoo! Day has officially been made!!
Thank you, Chatty!!!!!

This is sort of odd. I’m 28, 29 in November, and I used to watch Gumby all the time as a kid. It may have been in reruns, and it may have been at the instigation of my Uncle who is about 10 years older than I am, but it was definitely showing through the md 80s.
ChattyDM says
Yeah: I think reruns stopped running in Quebec earlier than on American TV.
Michael Phillips says
Of course, that 4 years can mean a lot. Back during my first try at grad school, I was pretty much the cut off year for remembering the Challenger Disaster.
Graham|ve4grm says
Well, I’m 25 this year. I’ve never seen the show, and I only know of the characters through bubble gun ads in old comic books.
