Finally a manual for the rest of them!

February 8, 2008 by The Chatty DM

gygaxian-nerd.jpgImage Source: Stupid Ranger (did you know this pictures shows up on Google Image’s 1st page using ‘nerd’? I’m impressed!)

My good friend Nicolas, an ex-player whose moved on to, shall we say, blonder pastures in Sweden sent me something while I was asleep.

As a follow up to my musings on geekdom/nerdistry, here is the Nerd Handbook written especially for the nerd’s significant other! Lifehacker’s article applies the wisdom of the handbook to both nerds and geeks.

I read it and I do recognize myself in some aspects of it like ‘The Cave’, my jumping from project to project (‘The Blog’ being one among many), my tendency to sort discussions as relevant or irrelevant and my becoming easily unraveled in the face of ambiguity.

It’s about equivalent to one of my posts, and since I’m a bit spent creatively speaking (I prepped a monster of a session for tonight’s game, Lillee’s letter being only the intro), I invite you to read it and tell me your thoughts on it.

My main question…. is it about nerds, geeks or both?

I’m offline for the next 24 hours or so. I have a daylong meeting at work and right after I jump into DM mode for our game. I’ll catch you all here and on the forums tomorrow morning.

PM and Graham will be your hosts… I’m sure they’ll behave… πŸ™‚

Oh man… does this guy have a camera in my house?

If it wasn’t so long, I’d have this printed on a shirt as a disclaimer to anyone who would come talk to me out of the blue.

I have a similar picture, that I took with Garry this year at GenCon as well.

I too have The Cave. Actually two of them: My office, and my game room, on different floors of my house, and both configured for different activities.

I also am guilty of The Project. I always have 2-3 of these going on at any one time. Over time my wife has grown use to The Projects but keeps an eye on how much Time and Budget they are consuming.

Good to know there are others out there like me. Though I don’t like the term Nerd, I prefer Geek.

Yeah it’s a rather uncanny assessment.

I’m giving this to my wife to read πŸ™‚
