Saying goodbye to a PC: Lillee’s letter to Cruguer.

February 7, 2008 by The Chatty DM

cruguer.jpgLillee, Yan’s Pixie Arcane Caster is leaving the group this week to be replaced by a new character.

While our group hasn’t developed strong ties or built any spectacular interrelations, there was something building between Lillee’s concern for Cruger’s well being and Cruguer’s pained tolerance of that somewhat annoying little ball of energy.

For those who don’t follow my campaign closely, Cruguer is a non-human, Paladin-like champion of good. In fact his race is called the Hellbred and consists of a former evil soul turned to good and given a last chance at salvation (Found in the Fiendish Codex II).

Should death befall Cruguer before he redeems himself in the eyes of the Divine powers giving him this second Chance, his soul goes straight to the Nine Hells of Bator with no chance at resurrection.

He his characterized by a body marked by the powers of Evil and a Soul cleansed of all past sins. (Very Christian, I know… but ohhh so tasty!)

So I thought I’d pay homage to Lillee by posting a goodbye letter she leaves for Cruguer:

Dear Cruguer,

It is with great sadness that I must leave our little family, especially in this time of need for our homeworld. I can’t ignore the call any longer and I must join my mistress Elhonna to help her defend her realm. Supposedly the Bloodwar has abated enough to allow those yucky fiends to break into the realms of Good.

My mistress’ realm has become one of the battlegrounds and she’s calling in all her heroes to her banner. Can you believe it? She’s calling me a hero! I almost swooned!

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that that leaving you is what makes me the saddest. I’ve never met someone as noble and serious in my life. While I was appalled by your appearance when I first saw you, although I had been warned… oops I’m not supposed to tell you that…

What I mean to tell you is that you made me understand many things about humans and what they can achieve. Oh yeah, you used to be one…. I’m so going to get yelled at for this, but who cares!

We fey do not take to suffering and pain as stoically as you do, we usually run from it or give it to others not worth our attention…. This is so hard for me to write… I’ll just go ahead and tell you!

Cruguer, dear dear Cruguer, you can stop being afraid for your life. Should you ever die before you gain redemption in the eyes of my mistress (she’s the one who saved you, just don’t tell her I ever told you), I solemnly pledge on the noble blood of my mother’s house that I’ll personally go to Hell and get your soul back!

I mean, who am I going to find that’s as stuffy and stiff as you to loosen up with my heavenly music as well as my incredible wit and charm?

Your’s truly for eternity…

Lillee

P.S.: Please don’t actually try to get killed, Hell is a lot worse than those stinking Ptolus Sewers! Tee Hee!

Aside: I’ve realized that I’ve made Lillee my character as much as it’s Yan’s, that hasn’t happened often in my 25 years of gaming. Kudos to you my friend, I’ll remember her for a long time.

    Just wow …
on the other hand, when I give a second though about having Lillee over my shoulder singing for eternity…I think that the “rumours” about hell are surely grossly over-exaggerated ;o)

The picture represent soooo much the idea I have of the character (and the flames).

Is it just me, or did anyone else hear Aeris’s theme playing while reading that letter?

We gave Eric (Cruger’s player), a printed version of that letter when we started the game and you could see in his eyes the emotion it triggered. It was a crowning moment of our gaming group for sure.
