Con-flagration

February 6, 2008 by Dave

I’m planning on attending a number of conventions in the upcoming months. I thought I’d share my plans, and how it relates to Critical Hits.

February

  • D&D Experience: Bartoneus and I are planning on attending, and trying to interview members of the 4e design team. We also plan to try to play some 4e ourselves, as well as talk to others about it. If we can arrange it somehow, we’ll try to be at the big Thursday event that is usually filled with announcements of upcoming products. As it stands, we weren’t able to register for any events (all full), so we’ll just be showing up, paying what money we need to, and improvising.

April

  • The Gathering of Friends: This will be my fourth year attending. There’s a limited amount of reporting I can do from here due to the nature of the event (and that I don’t want to do, since it is supposed to be somewhat of a vacation.) However, expect to read another report like last year that summarizes all my new board game feelings.

May

  • Balticon: While Balticon is a traditional con for the CH staff to get together for a few days, it tends to not be very news-worthy. (Unless you count discovering The Greatest American Gladiators Contestant Ever.)

June

  • Origins: I hope to have at least one intrepid assistant to help me cover this year’s Origins, because I discovered last year that covering a con on your own sucks. Last year I was able to fulfill some personal objectives for the con, I have even bigger plans for the next one. (It involves playing more games.)

July

  • Mystery Convention: I can’t even talk about this one yet, but hopefully stay tuned. I will make an announcement when I can.

August

  • GenCon: The big daddy of game conventions. My previous experience with GenCon was less than grand, let’s say. Right now, I just know I want to come to meet all the bloggers we’ve connected with over the past year. Oh, and play some NASCRAG.

After that, I expect to be gamed out, and/or dead.

    Could be…it is in Caesar’s month…

And we all know how much that dude loved salads…

Yea, and I can’t believe you’re going to Balticon Dave. It’s not like your dad helped found it or anything…

Yeah, we’re kind of in the same boat on Gen Con — it’s been going downhill. But at the same time, I finally figured out it’s about the gaming and not the sales floor so the last few years have been MORE fun. Especially since I started playing NASCRAG.

Speaking of NASCRAG, do you guys have a team together yet? I’m not sure who at SR is going to play this year, but I will be!

I have no team BUT a friend of mine plays every year. In fact, I haven’t played at GenCon, just from the modules that she’s bought and run. I’m going to see if she has a team, or if we can start one, or what have you. You and I will have to talk further about NASCRAG plans closer to the event…

Oh, AND we’re thinking it’s going to have a +5 bonus to kicking ass this year due to meeting lots of other bloggery folk like yourselves.

We may have a sinister plot brewing regarding that, actually. I will divulge more information soon.

    mwa ha ha

Works for me re: nascrag planning 🙂

I have 1d4 people aside from myself that may or may not play, so I think we should be able to cobble together something.

Looking forward to hearing about sinister plot!

    …I think.

Hmm…this “NASCRAG” thing intrigues me…I must investigate further…
