A Fey’s Journal, 3rd entry. Part 2

October 24, 2007 by The Chatty DM

As we where heading back to find the drug lab, seven other Spriggan were blocking our path.

They were the remaining force of the Dogbane House and they got to see the unconscious form of their leader, Raketi in our grasp. To my surprise they started talking to me in Sylvan, stating that they had been mislead by Raketi and brought in this disgraceful situation by his actions. They did not really intend to fight and where asking me what they could do… (Chatty DM: Once again, thanks Vanir!, playing this weaselly Evil stuff is coming easier and easier)

Well the simple solutions are often the best. I just told them to leave Ptolus. They where inclined to do so on the spot. but they all had this ring grafted to their finger. It was binding them to the Pactlords of Quann, a bunch of meanie monsters that hate all humanoids. “Well you could just cut your own finger off”, I said and to my surprise they not only agreed, they asked me if I, as the representative of our Goddess, could do the honors of cutting them myself. It seems my past is trying to catch up with me… (sigh)

Well it is a Fey thing, I don’t expect you to understand, but by requesting me to implement the act that would free them of their bonds, they where stating that they were recognizing a Fey’s debt of honor toward me. To have such a Debt in my Old World is not to be taken lightly… This means that I could now call on their help if ever need be and this until I deem their debt bought off.

(Chatty DM: Here Yan is adding to the actual spoken discussions but it really does add a nice Fearie-like flavour to the encounter and it opens up a lot of possibilities plot-wise. Good going dude!).

This also means that by accepting it, I was giving them my word that neither I, nor my friends would do anything to threaten their life.

This was sealed in the blood of their fingers as I cut off those with the bone rings. Now I need to keep them with me for the time being. Oh well, once a Fey…

After this gruesome task completed, the spriggans told us before leaving that some gnomes were working in the lab on the other side of a pond deeper in the Dungeon… As we continued our investigations of the remaining rooms, we found a water pool from which light was coming out of.

Finally we had found the lab, source of the drug that was causing people to transform in all these plant-like abominations. There was a few gnome alchemists in there that were grateful to be released. But before we could do so, a mechanical contraption, like a cross between a bucket and a Golem, charged us, grabbed Nogard and stuffed him inside its tank full of green stuff. This time Cruguer’s martial prowess really came through as he got hit extremely hard by that mechanical cauldron, fueling his righteous rage. He landed a crushing blow against it and the walking Soup Cauldron was soon destroyed.

Once the threat was contained, we went on to search the lab and Raketi’s room. We found a detailed journal of is schemings. It seems he was trying to make the populations of the Warrens passive addicts of the drug so he could go out and feed on their souls with no resistance… This is really nice of him to have written all the evidence of his mad plans in his journal, thus sparing us a long and unpleasant interrogation.

We have decided to hand him over the Brotherhood of Redemption, as he had already been exiled from the Faerie Queen’s Court. I doubt they would have anything to do with him now and, besides, this is a fitting punishment…

Still we have yet too find why the plant-like creature were headed to the Necropolis and where were the base component from which Raketi was creating is drug. Apparently, it’s the secretion of some kind of otherworldly divine being called Sehan…

    Well played…

For real, that character reads like something fun to see… I’m just afraid it will end up as green spot on Crueger’s helmet one day. He doesn’t seem the type to forgive easily.
