A Fey’s Journal, 3rd entry. Part 1

October 22, 2007 by The Chatty DM

What a day! Well just as I finished writing my last entry Cruguer complained that I did not pay enough attention to his martial exploits. Well this is something I surely intend to pay attention to from now on.

So let’s get down to business. We are in this cave, discussing our next course of action when we see some lights coming from the various exits.

Quickly the others hide their sunrods from what we suppose are other Spriggans. As a matter of fact one of them arrives with a white flag. It seems they want to parley.

Well I do know a few things about the fey; being one yourself kind of gives you an insight, so I go on ahead and show myself with Cruguer standing by my side.

Seeing us, the spriggan start his introduction… “I’m some schmuck from Dogbane House which is … and Blah! Blah! Blah” This could have taken an hour had I let him go, so I just added to his introduction the information that he would not mention.

Their ‘Noble’ House has been expelled from the Fey Queen’s court and as such it doesn’t exist anymore. That stopped his monologue dead real fast but that kind of backfire on me.

While I did not know him he certainly knew who I was and he was quick to remind me of my own disposition towards my House. (Chatty DM: Lillie refused her hereditary calling of becoming the High Priestess of the Nature Goddess, her House took it rather badly)

Well that being said we did not linger on the subject as I was quick to brush it aside stating that in this we did have a something in common but I wanted to know what he was here to parley for.

He then goes on and on about how the previous ambush was just a misunderstanding because they though that we where invading their hideout and as a proof of their good will, we could keep the magic sword we found on the ambusher in compensation. (Chatty DM: Hmmm, a gift from a Fey… I didn’t see it like that then…. cool!)

At that point Cixi decided to intervene, while moving into the light with her bow aimed at him. Well it did not faze him one bit, as he went on outrageous flattering such as “What astounding beauty and grace, truly I’m in the present of a noble spirit”… Urck! Boot-licking feys makes me sick, but he did succeed in making Cixi lower her bow, poor girl.

After a few further verbal quips, with us threatening their health if they did not stop all activity, and them trying to squeeze a distorted definition of what we wanted them to stop, Raketi, House Dogbane’s former ruler, showed up to further complicate these negotiations.

It was clear from my point of view that these negotiations would lead nowhere. Cixi on the other hand was in a hot argument with them over morality… She went as far as calling Raketi a liar with no heart, which spun yet another debate on the Eight Levels of the Heart and humanity’s obsession with truth (Sigh)

During all that time, Nogard, our Dragon Shaman, was watching another entrance from which lights could be seen and strange, vaguely beastly noise could be heard. As the discussion ended abruptly with the hasty retreat of the two Spriggan leaders, 3 Rust Monsters came from the hallway and charged dear old Nogard in is Full plate…

Lucky for him, I was able to blind two of them, which bought him some time. Cixi killed two and severally damaged the last one, who was finished by the all mighty Cruguer with his über martial technique called the “I start running after Raketi but decide otherwise when the realization that pursuing them would mean fighting them alone”… Tee hee!

Needless to say, this fight was over quickly. Without wasting any more time, we started to pursue the fleeing Spriggans. We caught up with them as they reached the other side of a suspended rope bridge over a deep chasm. Cruguer then decides to make another fine display of his tactical prowess by running across this bridge… which he somehow managed to miss.

Was it part of a distraction strategy? Well it did trigger quite the amount of hilarity in me when I saw him fall over into the chasm, only to hear a resounding crash and him cursing that he was stuck… He should call this manoeuvre the ‘Chasm Clogging Run’… Tee hee!

I’ll assume that it was all part of a plan to relieve us of some stress while showing us that the bridge was unstable. Thanks Cruguer, you’re a real sweetheart.

We then proceeded to confront the two Spriggans leaders. Nogard used some teleporting magic to go across the chasm and engage the enemies; Aravar and Cixi where shooting at them from the other side of the chasm while I was giving air support. Nogard was backstabbed and drained in this fight but we did manage to capture Raketi while the other fell to his death into the chasm.
