Inq. of the Week: Tights and Spandex

September 3, 2007 by Dave

JokerMost of the CH crew spent the day partying at a cook out at my place- with plenty of games of course. Guitar Hero 2, Wario Ware, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Get Bit!, Celebrities, Squint, You Must Be an Idiot, and Mall of Horror all were played at some point during the party. But the game we played the most was Covert Action, as Jake arrived with his box of comp copies and was eager to shoot some spies! As more people funneled in, the game was requested again and again. Expect to see a review of it in the near future.

But now down to business- our Inquisition of the Week, and recapping the past two weeks.

Our poll is now closed, and as expected, most of you will wait to see what D&D 4e is like before deciding to shell out or not. In a closer second than I expected are those of you who were swayed by my cunning arguments about why it’s going to be awesome. Then in third: those of you who are worried about being blindsided by a new edition too soon and unwilling to lay out the cash right away to keep it from the greedy corporation.

Last week, we asked about you! It was great to hear from all of you and to find out what you do and don’t like here. We also weren’t expecting to get all the compliments (honest!) but we like to hear what we’re doing well. There are times when we wonder if it’s all worth it… then you tell us it is, and we know to keep on going! (And if you haven’t introduced yourself yet, please do!)

Now, though not a lot of you said you were into comics, this week’s Inq is about comics and superheroes. Over at Comics Should Be Good!, they’re asking everyone what their top 10 comic characters are in both DC and Marvel lists. If you’re a comic’s fan, check out the questionnaire for the rules, and submit your lists! And if you do, let us know what you picked, just because I’m really curious.

I didn’t want to totally steal their idea, and needed to set up a new poll, so I thought I’d ask about some upcoming superhero movies. Now that a very busy summer of big movies is over (featuring a lot of superhero movies), we have to look for to the future.

[poll=14]

Some of these movies are a ways off, with many details yet to be had. But for pure hype, or pure preference, which of these are you looking forward to seeing, or at least finding out more?

    Here’s what I sent in to the Comics Should Be Good! survey, though after sending it, I realized a few that I was missing…

    DC

    1. Green Arrow (Oliver Queen)

    5. Animal Man
    6. New Frontier Steel / John Henry
    7. Speedy / Arsenal / Red Arrow (Roy Harper)
    8. Plastic Man
    9. Red Son Batman
    10. Frankenstein

    Marvel

    1. Multiple Man
    2. Spiderman
    3. Princess Powerful
    4. War Machine

    Isn’t the latest that the Justice League movie is going to be computer animated, and therefore dash the hopes of a movie with both Brandon Routh and Chrisitan Bale in it?

    Steve: There’s lots of people I didn’t invite who don’t live in the area 🙂

    Bartoneus: Not computer animated, just using some motion capture for some characters (i.e. Martian Manhunter.) But I wouldn’t count on Bale and Routh being in it… which is silly to have multiple screen versions of the same character. Unfortunately, that’s the reality of Hollywood licensing and contracts…

    With respect to Bale, Batman will only be in the film in costume, so it makes less of a difference in a way. Besides, assuming this is a coming together story I doubt that Batman would just show everyone his face anyway.

    P.S. Dave, can you explain the legion of Dazzler fans? She certainly has bounced around the X-Titles for quite a while, but what is it about her that people are into?

    I can’t explain the legion of fans. I just remember reading a lot of her stories when I was younger, disco outfit and all. And she was my favorite character in the X-Men arcade game. When making my Marvel list, I started to really scrape the bottom of the barrel on characters I liked. Later, I realized I had forgotten about all the great characters in Nextwave! If I had to redo it, Dazzler would lose to Fin Fang Foom.

    Dazzler = Jubilee + Not Chinese

    The Game;

    I fail to see this as a valid excuss, reason denied try again at another juncture.

    Fine, see if I cook at the next LAN-fest

    Steve, are you going to be in the Maryland area in November? If not, CAN you be?
