The most delightful thing about Final Fantasy XII is that, when it rains, there are these big ball of energy elementals who wander around various areas of the game. Their primary purpose is to look at first glance like an average level friendly mob, but upon hearing one of your characters have a wet-dream about casting a spell, they will float over and fry your ass like it’s the daily special. Combine this with the game’s revolutionary Gambit system (which sets it up so that your character automatically cast spells – cure, protect, haste, etc – when they need to) and you have one joyous romp through pain-land.
For some reason the Elemental does indeed ‘habla espanol’, this is not biting racial commentary. Or is it?
I had actually teasered this comic a long, long time ago (3 months) and just never got around to finishing it off until recently. Unfortunately the ravishing Balthier was relegated to a background figure with beady little eyes, but perhaps I’ll get to use him for more sinister purposes later on? Next week’s comic shall either be my nerdy impressionistic idea of Farside, or the best conversation about the Transformers movie ever to take place! I’ve been thinking of moving Random Encounters from the much coveted Wednesday throne to a later Thursday bean-bag chair, to put a bit more breathing room between the excellent Sense of Sanity and itself, so as not to produce webcomic conflagarations, but I can’t bear to move it yet. If you feel this would be a refreshing move, please say so!

I loved that about the elementals. The first time I saw one, it nearly killed me since I thought it had to be beatable at my level. It was not.

Yea it really is an interesting and seemingly random element (hah!) that they incorporated into the game, and because of that it’s kind of cool and very interesting. Makes it feel more like an MMO then a regular game by far.
