Inq. of the Week: Solid Snake Casting Call

February 12, 2007 by Bartoneus

Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout, sucka?Last week’s poll has come to a close, and disappointingly about a third of you don’t watch Battlestar Galactica so you couldn’t really participate, but I say to you all: Watch the show! I was like you up until January of this year, holding out and not watching for whatever reason. Then the season 1 and 2 dvds fell in my lap and we ended up watching all two seasons in under 2 weeks! It is highly recommended.

The results were very interesting, with a 4-way tie between Roslin, Starbuck, Tigh’s Wife, and None of the Above. Most surprising to me was the lack of votes early on for Baltar and Gaeta, and hopefully the rumors of Starbuck being off the show are either false or it’s at least done well. (The Game’s note- Roslin? Really? You guys have seen the cancer episode, right?)

This week’s Inquisition is a Casting Call for the Metal Gear Solid movie, but instead of doing a bunch of characters we’re going to focus on the front-and-center Solid Snake! Hideo Kojima and others working on the movie have announced nothing about casting, directing, or scripts yet so everything is free for speculation. Even if anyone who has anything to do with Ghost Rider will be working on the movie, the casting of Solid Snake can make or break the deal from the beginning.

If you search around you can find a ton of actor names linked or hoped by fans to be in the roll, from Tom Cruise to Mel Gibson, all the way back to good old Michael Biehn (of Terminator and Aliens fame) or the voice of Solid Snake himself, David Hayter. Indeed there are a good number of images comparing the older versions of Snake with images of Gibson and Biehn (pictured below) from their movies, listed as inspirations for the character from various sources.

Today we ask you, the readers:

{democracy:6}

As it is certainly possible for there to be actors we haven’t even heard of who could fit the roll perfectly, I’m leaving this poll open to submissions. Discuss your votes and thoughts in the comments.

Solid Snake and Michael Biehn, seperated at birth?

I see that Viggo was added, I was a big fan of the idea of him playing Ras’ Al’Ghul in Batman Begins but considering how small the role ended up being (for Ken Watanabe) I think Watanabe’s voice worked out better as a more haunting ideal.

    Good addition!

While he doesn’t seem like the sort of actor who embodies the role of Snake, I think a Bruce Campbell-led flick would be far more interesting.

Considering Hugh Jackman was actually an afterthought addition for this, I’d say he’s in a commanding lead. Still I feel like there has to be someone better then him for the role?

the fact that Kurt Russle was not on the original list is a travesty. I’m certain some of the “Hugh Jack-offs” would have voted for him!

    Long live Snake Plisken!

    Snake?

    Snake?

    Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!

So is the Metal Gear Solid movie going to suck like every other video game movie, or will it actually be good? I mean, the MGS games practically were movies, in their own, game-like sort of ways.

I think that heavily depends upon who is cast as Snake and ultimately who ends up directing it. Because the games are so much like movies, I think it could work out great as a james bond-meets-heavy-sci-fi type of thing.

As long as beating pyscho mantis involves removing your controller, I’ll be happy.

Putting Kurt Russel as Solid Snake would conflict with John Carpenters character from Escape from NY.

Personally I think Hugh Jackman would make the movie incredible. Even if the rest of the movie were to blow, After all my years in the movie business I have come accross great actors but, No one Fits a better position then Hugh Jackman for this movie.

David Hayter, i mean isnt hayter, snake? How could we have Snake without mr.Hayter…..that just wont sound right….or prob they could have him voiceover and let Jackman or Bale be snake but please let it have Snake’s voice……the real thing and not some imitation snake souning person

yea sure David hayter is the “voice” of solid snake but he is not officially a screen actor. he might play a hell of a role on the recordings but he could get on screen and suck ass lol. Now I say it shouldnt even be like 90 somethin percent I understand its the voice u want but as far as live action character I say bale he looked just like snake when he stared as batman when he was in asia

First I’d like to say that, before last night, I’ve never even cosidered who might play Solid Snake in a MGS movie. Then I saw Hugh Jackman in the movie Australia(yeah, I know), and from the start I couldn’t help picturing what he would look like with bandana and eyepatch(optional). I really believe he could even pull off the voice. He’s my vote.

    Dudes. 2 words: Adam Baldwin.
That guy is awesome. He was Jayne in Firefly, and Casey is “Chuck”. If anyone deserves to play Snake, it’s him. He’s got that ice cold, kill-you-with-a-toothpick kind of voice. PERFECT FOR SOLID SNAKE!!!

i think Sawyer from “LOST” would play a bad ass solid snake. He looks more like snake than these other actors mentioned above. He’s in pretty good shape, he’s got the beard thing goin, he’s got the stubborn confident attitude and he’s kinda funny in a sarcastic way. Sounds like Solid Snake to me!

Ummm…. here are my personal picks for Solid Snake (and why)

Christian Bale – he was the f——g Batman! and that dude from Equilibrium

Matt Damon – he was Jason Bourne, who is similar to SS on some levels

Shanning Tatum – he made a pretty good Duke in G I Joe, so….

Oh ya and Vin Diesel should be Vulcan Raven
