The Flagellation of the Artist

January 17, 2007 by Bartoneus

Oh Sauron, I've been naughty!

Really the end of a series here, recounting my New Years Resolutions, there was actually a discussion with Abekkus (Abe for short, though that’s not his name…) about precisely how self-referential this should get.  I decided to keep it on the mild side and go with a tastey quote for your taste buds.  Bonus points to the person who can peg what movie it’s from, no really I dare you, I’ve made it quite difficult!

Really the self reference aforementioned pertains to the most noble of my things resolved, that is to maintain this pace of comic-production for as long as humanely possible.  That’s no accidental -e in there, that is to keep up this pace as long as compassion dictates!  Any human could produce a comic a week, every Wednesday, but for many I would not so much call it humane.  I will certainly make pretend as though the dark-one, Sauron, is indeed behind me with a rather gravity defying whip, poised to deliver a stern lashing should I decide to instead have any sort of personal time what-so-ever.  Now that you’re reeling from the epiphany of “That’s Sauron?!”, I shall dazzle you with yet more rhetoric:  The whip is The Game.  I know Tolkien hated allegory and all that jazz, but truly some dark lord wieldeth the man as some gigantic whip upon my hindmost.  Do not mistake a blessing for a curse, I say, if it gets the job done then so be it!

In the meantime, while you bask in my frequent flogging, please take in our new layout and please do not hesitate to leave us feedback, good or bad.  If not then perhaps the whip will be brought to you!

This is your last chance, after this there is no turning back.

As I’m sure you’ve discovered, work involving creativity is really a double-edged sword. Your interest and desire is much higher to finish, but the pressures of a timeline is much harder to cope with when you’re dealing with something artistic…
