Yes, it was bound to happen. The hit TV show “Lost” will soon be a board game. The scary thing is, it might actually be a good game. About.com just posted a feature about it that has a description of the rules and an interview with the game’s designer.
While I’m always wary of statements like “[it has] elements from Talisman, Magic: the Gathering, Settlers of Catan, and Chess”, a number of the mechanics sound like great ideas.
Choice of 17 different characters, a random board made of hexes that form the island, competetive/co-operative play, 2 to 8 player range… all great stuff. Even if the game ends up sucking, I still admire any licensed game that takes a good look at its theme and tries to emulate the feel of the original work. The alternative is the crappy “roll and move” style game that doesn’t have anything to do with the show’s feel, and really, isn’t a game- just another merchandised product. (We’ll see if Cobras in the Cockpit falls into that trap- I have the feeling it will be.)
The official website, LostBoardGame.com, should be up soon.

This game could have some serious potential, especially if the players act out their respective character’s personality.
Perhaps in this medium Jack and Kate will actually get to the lovemakin’!
Of course, the game could only be complete if random, inexplicable character death is a large part.

One has to wonder what the actual goal of the game might be, as so far we aren’t entirely sure what the ultimate aim of the show itself is.
