Spiderman Returns

June 27, 2006 by Dave

The first trailer to Spiderman 3 is up over at Apple.

Sandman, Black-costumed Spiderman, a dance with Gwen Stacy, and the new Green Goblin are all there. Absent as far as I can tell? Topher Grace.

It’d be funny if he missed the last season of that 70’s show just for some minor role…

Topher Grace is in the trailer. He says: “Parker.”

Not too bad at all for a teaser!

Yea, it’d just be continuing the Ken Watanabe thing from Batman Begins.

“Hey Ken Watanabe’s in the movie…

…for like, 3 seconds. Then he dies. Such a good actor!”

I guess that is Topher. I looked at a screengrab and it didn’t register as him. Looks like they changed his hair color, eye color, and de-nerdified him twenty-fold.

I’m hoping that the lack of focus on Topher is in order build Spiderman as a franchise. Have Sandman be your main villian, while the Black Costume is the Inner Parker Angst for the movie, and then let Brock/Venom, Goblin II/Harry be on a slow burn.

P.S. I’m calling it, Mary Jane is not surviving this movie!

Yeah, in regards to possible MJ death, I’ve been suspicious of that too.

If she DOES bite it though, regardless of my favoritism towards blondes, it will kill the francise.

Nah, it won’t, Dunst isnt signed for another movie anyway, and having her die makes sense in that she’s Pete’s first GF in this continiuity, not Gwen.

I beg to differ! No other comic book character’s love interest, save MAYBE Supes, is as tied to that character as MJ is to Spidey. Gwen’s death in the comics was ok because we were set up from the beginning to know who Pete was meant for, and it wasn’t her. We’ve got the same setup here.

(Maybe I’m just mushy because I’m T minus a day or two here 😛 )
