IGN lists the 'Top 25' X-Men

May 21, 2006 by The Bored Gamer

A pretty decent list of what IGN says are the top 25 X-men. I definitely don’t agree with some of the listing ( Jean Grey is #6?!? What crack are they smokin’? She’s the freakin’ Phoenix for crying out loud… *ahem* excuse the fanboy-ism ), but overall , definitely an interesting read.

Though there are some parts of the list that MY inner fangirl balks at (Emma Frost, people. Emma Frost), I appreciate the list sheerly for it’s #1 pick. He gets the short end of the stick far too often in whatever medium the X-men are featured in, glad that he’s getting some props.

I’m very pleased to see the following absences:

    *Sage
    *Gambit

I also think that Cannonball should be on the list. If you look, almost all of the “New Mutants” generation is absent, but I think Sam (when portrayed correctly) comes across is a character that matured greatly under the X-Men’s tutelage and came into his own as a leader. Oh well.

Both Sage and Gambit are great characters? Why the heck do you like their absence from the list? Give us some reasons.

I do agree that Cannonball can be a great character as well as his sister Husk and the rest of the Generation X crew, they were all great characters. Specifically Banshee (may he rest in peace/come back in a few weeks)

Sage is an awful character, she is used as Claremont’s ‘deux ex machina’ in nearly every story arc I’ve read. She’s a human computer apparently, IE she can do anything to expedite the plot for washed-up Claremont.

Gambit is a fine character, though his accent can get painful to read, but he really doesn’t meet the criteria that has ‘loyalty to Xavier’s dream.’
