BBC News posted an article about what next generation system they think is best, with each reporter taking a different one.
We’re much smarter than any British people, so what system do you think is best: the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or Nintendo Revolution? Which one (or ones) are you planning on buying, and why?
I plan on buying the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 will be similar systems, as their current older versions are, but there will still be more appealing video game titles to me on the PS3. Should that turn out not to be the case, I may have to consider a 360. As it is, there is no compelling reason for me to buy the X-Box, while Square-Enix is all the reason I need to choose a PS3.
I think the new play style of the Revolution could be great… or it could be horrible. I am taking a wait and see attitude with this system. But, I’m hoping it will be great — and if that is the case, this will definitely be on my shopping list.
Not only have all of the reviews of Nintendo’s new controller/games been amazingly complimentary, if not downright gushing over the awesome gameplay of the new controller for the Revolution, but Nintendo at this point is the only company that is not making horrible press while simultaenously pissing me off for no good reason.
That said, I will most likely end up owning all three consoles, because I am a douche, retard, and most likely a fascist. Now all I need is for Blizzard to make a console, so I can officially spend the piddly remains of my soul in a massive orgy of lethal consumerism.
“I’m a consumer whore!”
“…and how!”
The Nintendo Revolution is where my money’s at. Something new and innovative in gameplay, finally! But there’s still time for them to make some collosally stupid decision. Nintendo has the best ideas but often the poorest execution.
While at another Kinko’s recently, one of the employees there came up to me and said “You look like a man who likes video games. Are you looking forward to the Xbox 360?” I had to explain that, no, I really wasn’t, because they were making a lot of decisions I didn’t like and didn’t look like they were doing anything new in terms of gameplay. He responded with “Sure they are, the graphics are so super sweet! I played the demo and the water effects and lighting were just awesome!” I let him go on for a while, then decided there was no way to convince him of anything. Sigh.
You should have simply stated: “Those are not improvements of gameplay, but simply graphical.” Not to mention, at this point, they’re expected/demanded for a game to sell well unfortunately.
He wasn’t really interested in hearing opposing points of view. I tried somewhat, but really, he didn’t want to hear my opinion, he wanted to hear himself talk about graphics. I agree that newer better graphics is what sells, but shouldn’t, and there’s no reason to not have better gameplay AND new graphics.
Game designers work cheap, you know 🙂
Nintendo’s controller is a huge gamble, if this thing is another VIRTUAL BOY the company is basically toast. That being said, hats off to them, I never bought the Game Cube, mainly due to its dismal RPG selection, and I hope this television remote/video game controller gives me reason to come back.
>Nintendo’s controller is a huge gamble, if this thing is another VIRTUAL >BOY the company is basically toast.
Yep, though if the Revolution gives me neck damage, I’ll be very surprised.
Are you planning on picking up any of the next gen systems?
Sony has proven that it is Evil Empire #2 (trying for Evil Empire #1 from the looks of it) – credit to Josh for getting all those stories on here. Microsoft IS the evil empire and then there is nintendo. I want to like nintendo, I really do, but there was nothing on the gamecube that ever appealed to me. So, two evil empires and nintendo walk into a bar….Who buys what?
How about PC? Not a new platform, but it’s pretty damned sweet! I wonder how many people have the technical equipment to actually take advantage of all this high definition madness. Those TVs are still very expensive from what I know.
Most people who have HDTVs are sports fanatics, since most sports games are broadcast in HDTV nowadays and said people ARE the type who want to see the tufts of back hair stick out of uniforms and sweat rings around armpits adn will pay extra for the privilege. So, I think there is a viable market, but just barely.
What these companies are hoping is that regular people will follow the common human instinct and throw good money after bad and decide they really, really, really need a new $6000 HDTV to “take full advantage” of their $400 console. The odds are in their favor on this one and people will rationalize it after the fact.On the plus side, as more people buy HDTVs, the costs should come down drastically thanks to economy of scale. Suckers.
To answer the question of the thread, I’m not going to buy any console as no console has anything I’m really interested in, aside from Oblivion. And Oblivion will simply be far superior on PC, if not initially, then a few months afterward when modders begin to really ramp up.
Modding communities are amazing. The dedication these people have just blows me away every time.
I may buy a Nintendo Revolution, but hesitate to buy a video game system because I could use a new computer too…
Modders are insane, at least the good ones. I guess its like art to them, a labor of love, because the number of hours poured into a project (without pay) is staggering. For those computerish people out there, does making a prominent Mod create an opportunity to break into the video game industry? That’s my only thought as to why people would subject themselves to such pain.
An update on how cool the Revolution is:

is about a Nintendo patent application that looks like it’s describing how older gen titles will play on the new system. Not only that, it looks like you’ll be able to use alternate characters in classic titles (ala Sonic & Knuckles.)
My money’s on the Revolution for mine. Because, yeah, NEW innovation in GAMEPLAY. which one’ll be best? well as with all things it’ll be a matter of opinion. Xbox will probably own the multiplayer market, as they rule the networks as of now. Hopefully Nintendo has some good junks lined up for online. Of course Nin is usually family-friendly, which counterbalances the quality work inherent in those they allow to craft games for their machines, in my mind. Sony will keep on with their keep on, I’m sure we’ll see nothing spectacularly new from them, but sometimes there is something to be said about quality vs quantity. Which I like to remind people when they gaze upon my genitals.
