Wii Weeee!!… I finally got one…

December 15, 2007 by The Chatty DM

Wiiii!Yeah, I got finally got one…

Wifey went to a department store near here yesterday for a Wii and she was told to show up at opening on Saturday morning and hope that a few were delivered.

So this morning, at 7h15, at -20 Celsius (that’s like -1000 F right? ) , I arrived in the store’s parking, noticing that another women was already waiting before the door. I got out of the car and stood behind her, forming a line.

Soon enough, 3 or 4 more people showed up and the anxiety level was rising.

At 7h30, an employee allowed us to enter in the store’s ‘lobby’ (I have no idea what’s that called in English… it’s a double set of sliding doors designed like an Airlock to keep the cold air outside the store.Β  A few more came in…

Everyone was being polite (as Canadians, even the French ones, usually are) and everyone wanted a Wii. I was second in line although the line was getting to be more of a huddle. I was wondering if politeness and civility would endure… Wiis are hard to find.

At 8h00 AM sharp, the door opened and all 10 of us formed into a neat line, without prompting, and we moved to the store’s Audio/Video department (I must say I was amazed at the discipline!).

There were 2 consoles behind the cash… SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! They were all packed up with Wii Play, an extra Nunchuck and Mario Galaxy (Thanks Dave!) for about 440$, 14% tax included.

I picked Brain something Academy and went back home happy to have beaten the odds.

Of course, being the kid at heart that I am, as soon as I got home, I unpacked everything (keeping Mario Galaxy and Big Brain thingnie for x-mas).

I’ve been playing since 9h00 this morning with my son and daughter and we unlocked all 9 Wii play games… the Tank game is so cool and reminds me of the Atari 2600 combat game.

My wife made her own Mii avatar but she has to work this morning…. poor her.

So my advice to you… ask your local store when the Wii are delivered (or better yet track Shippings to Walmart) and show up as early as you can manage as soon as you get a confirmation that the consoles are indeed usually delivered.

Cheers!

Heh. We got one for christman last year. We got it in March. πŸ˜› My dad walked into a Best Buy, saw them unloading it, bought it and called me. We got lucky.

This year, my cousin is buying one for her kids. Couldn’t find it anywhere, so she went to ebay. $400 for the $270 system, but she got it.

And then she walked into Toys R Us, saw them unloading, and got one for normal price.

So she got two Wiis somehow. And now needs to sell the ebay one to a friend who is also looking for it.

    Fun. πŸ™‚

NICE! Way to go, man. Getting one of those is pretty hard, especially now!

You get some more games, we should play online sometime.

I got my Wii 4 weeks ago and i LOVE this thing, mostly i’m still playing the Wii Sports.

Which game is it you’re playing that has the Atari like Tank game? I just looked up the Big Brain Academy on amazon and looks like I’m going to have to head down to the local game store soon and pick it up, thanks for the tip.

No Andy, although she is way above my paygrade, Alex is a Brunette… πŸ˜€

Have a look on Facebook, user name Philippe-Antoine MΓ©nard, you’ll see her in all her classical European beauty.

The Atari like Tank game is the 9th (and last) game to be unlocked on Wii Play (the game that comes with the extra controller).

If you buy Big Brain… we’ll play online vs Omnius… we should organize some Geek olympics!
