Addressing one of the more criticised aspects of 4th Edition D&D, last week Dave wanted to find out what the most popular class role is and it looks like he got some good results. Striker came out in a short lead with 27% of the votes, followed closely by the leader role with 22%. Defender recieved 16% of the votes and Controller came in last with 15%, while a solid 20% of those voting either don’t like class roles, don’t play 4E, or really like bananas.
We’ve had a lot of Origins 2009 coverage over the last week, and on Saturday celebrating the 4th of July Dave and I realized that GenCon is only a few weeks away. This realization makes me ponder what keeps me going through such hectic times, and more often than not the answer always comes back to caffeine. I’ve been a huge soda fiend since middle school, and even though my day job has stopped buying soda but still provides coffee, I just can’t bear switching over!
My assumption is that most of you are fans of my favorite legal addictive substance as well, so let us find out what the most popular source is!

In discussing the topic with Phil the Chatty DM, he pointed me to this great website that lists the various sources of caffeine and how much each contains per oz. It’s definitley useful information to have at hand.

I used to be a diet coke fiend. I gave up the coke habit and am now mostly exclusively on iced tea. Sometimes I drink regular soda, but not often.

I a big fan of coffee and tea. I feel that coffee really is the best to power through and get a short burst of energy. While tea is great for more stamina and a task thats more repetitive. I am now drinking more energy drink but only the sugarfree kind, they definitely wake me up but make me a little too jumpy 🙂

Take a tall glass and fill it 1/4 to 1/3 with vanilla soy milk, then fill the rest of the way with plain ice tea. Damn fine.
The Game says
OK, here’s my getting hooked on coffee story, which involves gaming!
I was running one of my Modern campaigns, and we had the next game scheduled, but one of my players couldn’t play until midnight due to a recital. Everyone else said they were fine with starting that late, so they brought a coffee maker to keep them up.
Meanwhile, I planned an adventure that involved no one being able to sleep, and if the players fell asleep in real life, I was going to punish them in game, because sleeping was very bad. However, I started to get tired myself. So they offered me some coffee. My experiments with coffee had been bad thus far, thus I declined, but they insisted that the way they made it I would like it. I tried it, and darned if they weren’t right. They beat the adventure and restored the ability to sleep, and I started my slide into a cuppa joe a day.

And while we’re at it, I just saw today that caffeine cures, yes cures not just prevents, Alzheimer’s disease. You could look it up.

I could never get into drinking coffee… and as much as I adore tea, when I need caffeine I buy Red Bull…

I used to drink Caffeine to stay up during gaming.
These days, with my groups all being filled with professionals with kids, when we hit the wall, we stop.
Now I need coffee more the morning after. Lots of coffee…

I average between 2 – 3 cans of Mtn. Dew each day.
I do sometimes drink sweet tea, can’t stand coffee (dirty water) and I avoid energy drinks – something about them I find unsettling.

What an evil question! I drink coke and coffee, and like it. I try to occasionally give up soda, but that seems to be a lost cause every time I try to make it through a day at work or through a long RP session (or a short one for that matter, I just like coke too much).

Gawd, I love coffee. It started as a drug and I’ve learned to enjoy great coffee.

The Chatty DM says
I don’t drink coffee, I think that it systematically fails to deliver on the promise of it’s aroma. I drink catastrophically high amounts of caffeinated sodas and tea though.
That being said, the ultimate caffeine bomb would probably be a mug of coffee, with a tea-bag in it using some crushed Caffeine tablets instead of sugar. Don’t try this!
