The year of 2008 comes to a close this week, and quite the year it has been for us! I don’t know if Dave or I could have foreseen where Critical Hits would end up back in January, but we are certainly happy with the way things are. Last week Dave asked which fictional holidays you celebrate, with some awesome throwback options to shows like Dinosaurs that I found pretty funny. The miracle of Festivus won out with 24%, followed closely behind by the WoW players and the Feast of Winter Veil at 22%.
This week New Years is on Thursday, and no doubt many people will be taking part in the renewing tradition of setting New Years Resolutions. I’ve set very few of them in my life, and of those I don’t think I’ve ever fulfilled one but at least I set my goals high, right? Okay, maybe not. Whether you set them or not, and if you live up to them or not, the fact that you’re reading this means there is one important resolution that you DO have set.

I realize many of you are probably over-clocking life itself and running dual monitors, and that most of us have a computer at work or at home, but the best is to share which resolution you’re happiest and most comfortable with. We’d also love to hear about any New Years Resolutions you’re committing to for 2009, so please share in the comments!

I think my New Year’s resolution will be:
* Read to my daughter every night
* To upgrade to dual monitors
* Attempt to lose all the weight from sitting behind monitors
* Attempt to game one a month or more
* Not be an elitist
The first one will be the easiest, since she practically demands it now! Happy New Year!

Your monitor display resolution will probably be as skewed as your “what’s your occupation?” survey.
I am the lone 800×600 voter and I honestly don’t get why you would want to shrink everything down. It’s like buying a 50″ TV and watching the picture-in-picture exclusively so you don’t get any larger image than before. When I go to a site like myconfinedspace, I want the images to be about the width of a magazine photo, not shrunk down to the size of a Polaroid shot.
I understand the concept of tiled windows, but I had a dual monitor setup for about six months and side-by-side windows just weren’t helpful 90% of the time. I felt guilty about the extra pollution to manufacture and run the second screen, so I got rid of it.

@Noumenon –
The point is not to make things smaller. It’s to give things that are the same size more detail.
Though I agree for the most part with your dual screen sentiment. I used to have them, too, and they’re largely unnecessary for most people. But when they’re useful (design functions, mostly, but also playing online RPG games with a maximized battlemap in one screen and skype and notepad in the other), you wonder how you ever did without them.
But for the most part I get the same functionality with my 1680×1050 (22″ widescreen) monitor.
My browser is approximately 1024 wide, so I can view most websites as they are intended, as well as design mine for most viewers. Also because a widescreen paragraph is annoying to read. On the right, I have my sidebar and instant messaging program, plus my weather gadget.
The only programs I run full screen are games and design/drawing programs.

There’s never enough time or space in my life for all the things I want to do. So on the computer it’s dual monitors at max resolution. Off the computer, I just dispense with sleep.
