While I was gone…

June 30, 2008 by Dave

Three pretty important things happened in the gaming world while I was sequestered away at Origins:

  • Reiner Knizia has won his first Spiel Des Jahres award for the boardgame Keltis. And he won the best kids game award too!
  • I’m sure I’m one of the last bloggers to report on this, but Diablo 3 is coming. There’s both a cinematic trailer and gameplay trailer up to drool over.
  • Finally, some sad news: Michael Turner passed away at the age of 37. One of the most sought-after comic cover illustrators out there and creator of the series Fathom, his talent and popularity cannot be denied. He will be missed.

I was extremely sad when I got back from my quick vacation to hear that Michael Turner is dead; it doesn’t hit quite as hard as Mike Wieringo’s death did but still a very big loss and my thoughts go out to his friends and family!

Well, Diablo3 is definitely coming, and it already seems as if some fans are up in arms about it.
The even started a petition because it looks too much like WoW.

I never even considered Diablo the type of game that one could be solely a “fan” of, they are fun games that definitely stand out amongst computer games, but someone who says “Diablo is the best game EVER!” most likely just hasn’t played enough games.

I don’t see why not, Diablo was probably my favorite out of any of the Blizzard games (though I never got very far in Diablo 2.)

I don’t see any problem with being solely a fan of it.

Fine, you called me on trying to start some shit, it failed. 🙁

I’ve loved both Diablo games, but after playing them it always comes back to feeling like you’ve just been pointing and clicking a thousand times over for no real reason. The gameplay trailer for Diablo 3 looks awesome, however I can’t help but feel it will be the same way.

Heh, that’s the way I feel about World of Warcraft…
