Inq. of the Week: Summer Movies ’08

February 18, 2008 by Bartoneus

Indiana Jones & The Dark KnightWho would have thought that in such a innuendo laden poll that Portable Hole would be the most popular choice?  Thankfully the Rod of Splendor and Holy Avenger tied at second place, but I was still very surprised that the ever vigilant Immovable Rod didn’t attract more people.

This week we’re all pretty excited after seeing the new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trailer.  It’s really one of the last trailers in a series of what look to be entertaining and hopefully good movies throughout the summer months.  We have a few sequels that are shaping up to be better than the originals in Hellboy II, The Dark Knight, and Prince Caspian.  Some new faces to the cinema that look promising like Iron Man, Speed Racer, Wanted, and Pixar’s WALL-E.

The movies are scheduled to release on:

Iron Man – 5/2/08
Speed Racer – 5/9/08
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – 5/16/08
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – 5/22/08
WALL-E – 6/27/08
Wanted – 6/27/08
Hellboy II: The Golden Army – 7/11/08
The Dark Knight – 7/18/08

The question that we’d like to have answered is…

Yes to all…not sure whether I’ll make a double feature or save WALL-E till Independence Day…

Also, have to watch the original Hellboy…the sequel’s trailer got me excited…

    Hellboy 2:
is David Hyde Pierce in the sequel reprising his role as generic fish man?

Am I the only person who wants to just see Indiana Jones? I am kinda uninterested in seeing the rest of those flicks.

    I think so…

I’m just wondering how one can be uninterested in seeing the Dark Knight…

Im not so sure about the second hellboy, the first was “eh” in my opinion, the preview to the second one had me until I saw it was a hellboy sequel.

Batman- Wouldnt miss it for the end of the world

Indy- gotta see it, I mean Ive seen Nazis faces melt, A giant Indian in a turban get squished, and a two timing American get aged in 20 seconds.. How can I miss whats next?

Ironman- Take it or leave it

Wall-E- After ive seen a rat become a chef, Pixar owns my soul.

    @Steve:

Jumper looks fun. I don’t think I’ll see any of these movies at the theatre.

I would guess Jumper is not on here because its gotten awful reviews (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jumper/), because its not a ‘summer’ movie, AND we all had enough Hayden Christiensen/Sam Jackson action sci-fi the first time…

Jumper was entertaining…I went in expecting to see Mace Windu taking revenge on Anakin Skywalker by reverse-engineering a lightsaber to shoot Force Lightning at the corrupt apprentice…and that’s what I got…and it was good…

Cool concept, but not good enough to make up for the horrible writing and “meh” acting…

I plan to jump a small portion of that chase scene into whatever my first feature film turns out to be…just a quick blip of Griffin chasing David screaming “GIVE ME THE DETONATOR!”…

Steve: All of those reasons listed contributed to Jumper not being included on this list. Most of all being that it’s already out in theaters and that it’s not coming out during the summer.

Summer movies do tend to come out in the summer…

    Mike:
Faces do tend to get stabbed when people are smart arsses. 😛

Saw Jumper last night, and yeah good thing it wasnt on the list.
