The Many Fates of Mario Mario

pbf213-mario_too.jpgI’m currently blasting my way through Super Paper Mario, which is ridiculously fun and old school, but may be a tad too short.

So here’s a couple starring-Mario webcomics and art pieces that have caught our attention recently:

Sticky Note Theatre: The Untold Enemies of Mario

Perry Bible Fellowship: Mario Too

 VGCats: Koopa!

Thrice Fresh: Son of Super Mario

All-Night Game Console Campouts (XKCD)

XKCD is another comic that doesn’t use a fancy art style (it’s all stick figures and simple line drawings) but is consistently hilarious. It makes a lot of math, programming, and video game jokes, but the punchlnes are usually unexpected. And then there are some that are downright sweet.

While it wasn’t quite like that on launch night, it did seem like the Wii launch went a lot more smoothly than the PS3 launch, and so was a bit more friendly…

Talking Boars! (EXTRALIFE)

World of Warcraft Boars

This weekend we are featuring what I consider to be the most creative AND consistently funny webcomics around, EXTRALIFE by Scott Johnson.  The one in particular shown above is and excellent take on how things really work in the game World of Warcraft, and what boars really talk about in their spare time (between random killings for livers), check out the entire thing!

We all strongly recommend it, and if you have the time it is definitely worth it to check out the back logs of comics there.

Warhammer 40k Little Men (Ctrl+Alt+Del)

Ctrl+Alt+Del is a webcomic usually about video games, including the competitive aspect of it. It also features an Xbox robot! Their recent run, however, is about one of the characters trying to introduce his hardcore video gamer roommate to Warhammer 40k. One of my favorite exchanges from this: “These guys have chainsaw swords.” “This is the coolest game ever.”

Lil' Watchmen (Silver Rage)

A send up of the seminal series “Watchmen” as if they were kiddies in school. Good stuff, though it helps to be familiar with “Watchmen” (and if you’re not, you should cancel your weekend plans and go read it. A piece of literature in words and pictures.)

Lil’ Watchmen goes for four strips and starts here

And the strip’s main site is here. Good webcomic, with a lot of comic book references.

Dungeon / Coffee Master (Toothpaste for Dinner)

Toothpaste for Dinner is my favorite webcomic, accomplishing the difficult task of being consistently hilarious on an almost daily basis. He’s not afraid to do nerdy jokes either, as shown above. I’m sure I’ll be showcasing several from his archives, but I highly recommend checking it out. Also, be sure to check out his line of t-shirts.

Batman: My Parents Are Dead (PVP Online)

Our newest feature is something I call Webcomic Weekened. Every week we pick one Webcomic, and pick a particularly good comic or series from its archives. So we’ll showcase the best webcomics the internet has to offer by showing you the best its done (with a preference towards Critical Hits related topics.) Enjoy!

We’ll start off with a comic full of gamery goodness, Scott Kurtz’s PVPonline. Last week was 24 Hour Comic Day, and he did a “sprawling epic that examines the deep inner psyche of Batman.” Enjoy!
