Those who have been reading my stuff for some time know that I’m mostly a Mono-Gamist GM. I’ve embraced the latest edition of D&D because we wanted to try it, because I idolize one of it’s creators and because it’s one of the easiest RPGs to prep for. And it’s, like, you know, fun… However, […]

Review: “Street Fighter IV”
Street Fighter IV, the six-button-mashing cash cow for Capcom is here, and already it’s being hailed as a successful sequel to the franchise by videogame critics. This is not the first Capcom foray into the pseudo-3D universe of Ryu and Chun-Li. The Street Fighter EX series was produced to rival the growing number of people playing games such as Tekken and Virtua Fighter. These games were nominally successful, and offered some of the same gameplay features. Street Fighter IV, however, is far more pretty and fine-tuned.
Review: Bucephalus Games Initial Lineup
They may have a funny name, but they’re not messing around: Bucephalus Games stormed onto the scene last year, quickly putting out a number of board game titles and having an impressive precense at both Origins and Gen Con. A quick look at their web page shows that some pretty big names are part of this new company too. The company was kind enough to send me four of their games for review- for a new company to even have four games at launch is impressive, but they already have no less than 10 MORE games planned, showing strong ambition for a new company.
DM Chronicles: Session 10,Fight Night! Part 2
See part 1 here. Oh wow, I leave my last post with a cliffhanger and a “What would the reader do?” and I get a ton of answers far better than I did. Still I’ll chalk this one in my lessons learned below. Here’s a reminder of the setup: All players are inside a room […]
5 Things I Loved and 5 Things I Hated About 2nd Edition AD&D
Greywulf and Mike Mearls both have given their opinions on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition on the occasion of it’s 20 year anniversary. While AD&D (1e) was the first version of D&D I played as a very wee one, 2e was the first where I was part of a regular gaming group, the first […]
DM Chronicles: Session 10 Fight Night! Part 1
Previously in Chatty’s game: Our heroes discover that they have been setup to be ambushed by the duergar. Planning to catch the Grey dwarves at their own game, they partially succeeded in turning the tables but had to face a brood of Kruthiks (Think hive mind insects with knife-shape claws). Our stalwart champions reached the […]
Comic to Movie: Lost in Adaptation
Not long ago I was quite excited to see the movie adapted from the very good comic book, Wanted. This excitement was spurned by a few non comic readers saying that the movie was great, and so I figured if they thought the movie was awesome then surely it must be a decent movie no […]
YouTube Tuesday: City 17 Edition
Since I was sent it no less than 3 times this week, here’s the Half-Life 2 fan movie that everyone’s talking about. It’s well done, but perhaps more importantly, it shows that good quality stuff can now be made for as cheap as $500.
So You Wanna Write a RPG Blog? Post-Scriptum: The Crash
Wanting to get back on the blogging wagon, I decided to write a small addendum to this series. It won’t break new ground but it may help some see a bit of the darker side of blogging. A few months ago in the early throes of one of the most powerful creative surges I had […]
