Dungeons & Dragons: The Pen and Paper Video Game

In lieu of Mr. Gary Gygax’s passing, Gamasutra has an pretty interesting introspective on how D&D has influenced, perhaps even birthed, the modern video game, especially in consideration to the RPG and Simulation genres. It’s quite insightful and well worth reading.

Registration MAY be required, but probably not.

Twas' the Night Before Tesla

On this fine holiday eve, I was scouring the internets and ran into this beauty.

A “Tesla Tree“. A shot of a christmas tree made of discharges of Tesla Coils. This DIY project may just be a time-lapsed photo with some color filters to add some holiday cheer, but the geekiness of it just brings a tear to my eye and a warmness to my heart.

Make sure you check this guy out. A lot of awesome things were made from Tesla Coils ( among them a Red Alert Tesla Coil and a “Tesla Car Theft Protection System” ).

Rumor: Matt Damon to play Green Arrow in Super Max?

Green Damon( ? )Slashfilm has a post up about the rumor of Matt Damon playing Green Arrow in the DC’s new superhero movie Super Max.

What is Super Max, you ask?

According to the description on the Wizard homepage of the movie, Super Max will involve the DC Comics hero, Green Arrow. Being falsely accused of a crime and convicted, GA will have his secret identity revealed, his goatee shaven ( wha? ), and tossed into the Super Max prison for super-villains. The rest of the movie will apparently be his dealing with the very villains he put into this prison, as well as trying to escape and clear his name. Super Max premieres in 2010.

This is my first time hearing of Super Max, and truth be told, while the premise is intriguing, I don’t have faith in it. According to the Wizard article linked above, it will mostly feature B and C level villains from the DCU, which could be interesting… or just downright boring. I’m not much of a fan of Matt Damon either, and can’t see him pulling off GA very well.

What’s the overall opinion? Will Matt Damon make a good GA, or will he bomb? Will this movie be any good? Why the shaving of the goatee and will there be boxing glove arrows? Questions abound.

Going Critical on Final Fantasy XII

As some of you may know, Final Fantasy XII was released to North American audiences this past Tuesday.

Although only having had barely five hours to actually play the game since then, this edition of Going Critical will be devoted to giving my initial reactions to these five hours with a full review of this game when I actually complete it (which at this rate will be when Final Fantasy XIII is released…).

Robocop Vs Neo

A very very well done movie mashup video with Robocop taking on Neo with Yoda showing up for.. well really no good reason. The scenes were spliced together nicely most of the time, with a few scenes that were obviously forced together, but overall very very entertaining.

Super Mario Live!

Super Mario : Live

Cool video of some dude and his crew performing the first level of Super Mario Bros. for a college talent show. It’s got some pretty awesome touches, especially when someone pauses the ‘game’.

Leeroy Jenkins… the CCG?

This one is for the the World of Warcraft-ians among us. Apparently in the upcoming World of Warcraft CCG, there will be a card immortalizing Leeroy Jenkins himself. Also, other cards are planned that use humorous/true stories from the WoW community.

The Leeroy Jenkins card will be illustrated by Gabe from Penny-Arcade, which should be interesting to behold.
