Articles by Scott Fairley

Scott one day hopes to make a great lay-down against Phil Helmuth using his own chips, then show his hand to make him tilt. He writes about Poker and TV.

Texas Hold-Em: Laying Down a Big Hand

Phil Hellmuth, arrogant as he is, happens to be one of my favorite Texas Hold-Em poker players. Many of you that are familiar with the game and watch it on television will also be familiar with Phil. One of his favorite sayings is “I can dodge bullets baby!” So what does Phil mean when he says this? What is he talking about? Well, one thing that Phil Hellmuth does better than most other poker players is lay down big hands, hard as that may be to do, because he can figure out when he is beat. D&D is REAL! This comic strip says so!

I’m a Roman Catholic and I find this to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. I am more amused by the stupidity of the author/characters than anything else.

Texas Hold-Em: Respect the Raise!

Alright loyal readers, it is time for my second article on Texas Hold-Em. I am sure that many of you have patiently waited for more poker advice and analysis from your fellow poker amateur, and so I will deliver that commentary to you now. The topic of discussion… the raise.

First of all, I need to clarify what I am talking about when I say raise for the purposes of this article. I am not referring to the initial raise of the blinds in the first round of betting. My good friends over at IGN have published an article that is worth reading before you spend your money on a Microsoft X-Box 360. While it is true that Sony has many problems that do not complement a company that needs a strong consumer base, their saving grace will still be the Playstation game system.

In this well written article on IGN, ten good reasons to pass on the X-Box 360 in favor of waiting for the PS3 are listed. Check it out, you’ll be glad you did.

Texas Hold-Em: The Blind Check

I have decided, in all my infinite wisdom, to write a series of articles about Texas Hold-Em. A lot has been said about the “Cadillac of Poker” over the years, and many poker professionals are often happy to write about what they know. So why should you listen to what I have to say? Easy. I am not a pro so my experiences are going to be more like the ones a typical home game player will experience. I have learned a lot about this game just by playing it with friends and on the internet, so I am going to share this knowledge. Please note that these articles will assume that you know the general rules and game flow of Texas Hold-Em.

I am sure that those of you who are reading this have more than likely read the reviews submitted by Dennis and Dave. If you have not, then you should before diving yourself any further into this materpiece! They both provide good insights and thoughts into the game mechanics and rules system.
