The Great Console Debate… that we'll have

BBC News posted an article about what next generation system they think is best, with each reporter taking a different one.

We’re much smarter than any British people, so what system do you think is best: the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or Nintendo Revolution? Which one (or ones) are you planning on buying, and why?

Nerd Songs Roundup

While I am constantly hunting for new indie music since I have some sort of musical equivalent of ADHD, I have found that I am able to satisfy my hunger by relying upon old classics and familiar songs mashed up in new ways.

What’s that all mean? I’ve found a bunch of albums on the internet involving nerdy stuff remixed in hilarious ways.

A Trio of Game Mini-Reviews: Arkham Horror, Mall of Horror, Wits & Wagers

Over the weekend, I got a chance to play a couple games: Arkham Horror, Mall of Horror, and Wits & Wagers. Here’s my thoughts on them.

A highly thematic game

World of Warcraft: The Board Game will be released soon, followed by the World of Warcraft Collectible Card Game. We already had a Warcraft board game and rpg, but apparently the universe changed dramatically after Warcraft 3, as a new fad swept through the citizens of the two continents: standing around and giving quests.

Here’s some rules you can expect to see in the World of Warcraft Board Game.

The Twilight of the Imperium 3rd Edition: Dave's Derisive Take

Twilight Imperium Box

Twilight Imperium 3rd edition was released this year, updating a Fantasy Flight Games classic to adapt some more modern ideas in board gaming. I own the second edition, and played it twice, but it hasn’t really left the shelf in many years, due to time and complexity involved. I have now played the 3rd edition twice (16+ hours of gameplay) and have to say that if I had bought it, it would probably remain on my shelf or be headed for Ebay. (Warning: the following review has a number of crudely shot cameraphone pics of the game being played) [Read the rest of this article]

More D&D to replace what is missing in our lives

Wizards of the Coast has started selling bumper stickers. Most of them are pretty uninspired, though “Don’t make me roll for initiative” is pretty good. It’s still not enough to topple classics such as “Carpe DM: Seize the Dungeon Master” and “Jesus Saves (and takes half damage)”

I do like that Wizards is expanding to try to make D&D more acceptable, like this ad targeted at MMORPG players. I mean, come on… I’d much rather play D&D than WoW any old day of the week. While WoW is a group activity, my experience was that it wasn’t really a social activity… unless you count “WTS Crystal McGuffin” as being social.

Interweb LOTR goodness

First, for those of you who are fans of WoW and LotR, there’s this amusing animated gif.

And for you sophisticates, there’s the 1940′s classic Lord of the Rings starring Humphrey Bogart. (Quicktime required)

"Perhaps this is a passable day to die."

Star Wreck: The Pirkinning is a full length parody science fiction movie made entirely by some Finns and a lot of computers. It is a fan made film, but from the dead on computer generated ships, you might not know it until you actually saw the actors. [Read the rest of this article]

“In a discussion on a website about pushing comics to phones, someone suggested that ALL-STAR BATMAN could be redone with text-message dialogue: LOL R U A TARD IM TEH GD BATMAN” –Warren Ellis on his Bad Signal mailing list

The Meeple Revolution has Begun!

First, they were studied extensively

And now, what once were considered harmless wooden citizens of a medeval French town have begun to invade.

Beware, the meeples are coming! Who knows what effect Essen will have on these startling developments.
