Inq. of the Week: 4E D&D in 2010?
With the Holidays quickly approaching, two weeks ago Dave asked an actual “real world question” about which season of the year is your favorite. I’m the kind of person that finds little stuff like this interesting, then again Fall is my favorite season and it looks like I’m with the small majority of 33% of you on this one. Spring and Summer nearly tied with 23% and 24% respectively, and Winter came in last but very close with 20%. Also I’d like to extend my congratulations to Dave and Phil the Chatty DM for their excellent entries into the WotC Holiday Encounter Contest.
This week I’m taking a hard look at what has been announced for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition in the coming year (you can see them all at WotC’s catalog in wondrous chronological order) and wondering what’s in store, getting a taste of what I’m going to like and what I won’t in 2010. At the moment they have only really announced products up through the exciting Dark Sun Campaign Setting in August, but there’s still plenty in there already to get excited about or at least to keep us looking forward.
Loading ...I am most excited for Dark Sun, but since that is also the longest to wait for I am very much looking forward to the complete Psionics rules and the unannounced classes in the PHB3, as well as seeing what kinds of new monsters are in store for the third Monster Manual. I believe the product I’m most dubious about right now is Martial Power 2, as there have been no new Martial classes released since the first source book unlike the divine and arcane power sources. However, I am quite excited to see an official ranged Warlord build in the hopes that I can finally make a melee & ranged combat commander without multiclassing. How about you? Which products are you most looking forward to and why?

Most definately looking foreward to PHB3, also highly anticipating Psionic Power and maybe even Primal Power 2.
The Seeker preview made me want to play my first controller, the Warden is my favorite defender and I may actually play a leader depending on how the Ardent looks so I am looking forward to support for these classes

I’m looking forward to the ANNOUNCEMENTS. I’m hoping that they will announce they’re doing a Fey book, either like Open Grave, or one like Plane Below/Underdark. Although I’d prefer the former, rather than the latter, since the latter seems to not garner a lot of monsters. I want something on fey psychology, rules on deals and fey parties and things of that nature.
PHB3 will be great but I’m most looking forward to the Ravenloft game.
Wow, looking at the list there’s actually quite a bit I’m looking forward to in 4e next year. I want to run a planar game, so the Plane Above and the Demonomicon are big yays for me, of course. And I’m interested in seeing Dark Sun, and the PHB3. And, finally, I’m hopeful towards the race books and the adventure modules.
They’re actually making a ranged warlord path? For serious?
I’ve never played in a Dark Sun campaign, but it’s still what I’m most excited about, both because of a new experience and because of how everyone talks about the setting. And, apparently much like lots of other people, I want the PHB3. New races, classes, and powers? Yes please. Finally, somehow I missed that the Tomb of Horrors is coming back. As someone who has also heard of its legend and who has played through “Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil” in 3E, I love mega-adventures. And if you survive, even better.
Definitely the PHB3. Itching to get my paws on some psionic goodness.
