Tommi: I don't see this as something unique to 4E, or even different from previous editions of D&D?

You just have to be very careful about what content you use in your games.

Bartoneus: With 4e the balance can be messed with seemingly innocent changes that would be okay for another class. And with totally new kind of game people will have no idea about what they are doing.

Since I subscribed to Dragon back in the print days, I don't have a problem paying a monthly subscription. Or more accurately, I don't have a problem dropping $60 for a year Dungeon/Dragon.

(I recall paying somewhere around a hundred bucks for a year's worth of Dragon, so $60 is a better deal).

Prediction: There will be a bunch of 3rd party products that completely mess up class balance by adding new powers to old classes.

Donny: To be fair, since they announced D&DI, they've always said it was going to be a monthly subscription.

SC_DM: The character generator is awesome. It takes a lot to impress me with a character creator, but it was really solid.

Haaldaar: Bartoneus's eyes lit up when they mentioned that, then sunk down when he found out it wasn't a full app he could acquire.

I am still quite interested in the progress and getting to drive the Character Generator when it's available to test. The price point is totally fine IMHO, it's not required to play 4E, but if you want, it's good extras.

Interesting reading...That said, the monthly subscription fee is a dealbreaker. I wasn't all that enthused about it to begin with, but time has only soured my opinion even more.

It's bad enough the MMORPG's do it, but my PnP game too? No thanks. I got too used to getting freebies, and I vastly prefer reading an actual print publication, as opposed to my migraine inducing computer screen.
